Established in early 2017, Bonfire Restaurant & Bar is a relatively new player in the resto-bar segment that is serving up modern Australian cuisine right in the heart of Klang Valley. They are located at The Starling Mall, the famed new shopping complex in the ever popular and hip Damansara Uptown hotspot area.
The idea behind this establishment was conceptualized from the same family behind well-known restaurants in Klang Valley such as Yellow Brick Road @ Batai and the infamous Red Bean Bag Cafe @ Publika. With so many F&B accolades under their belt, rest assured that your dining experience at Bonfire will be well worth your time.
Pan de Casa (RM8)
The fine people at Bonfire kick started our dinner experience by serving us some good ol' baked bread paired with dried fruit butter. A staple appetizer for most modern western cuisine. We were amazed on how good the dried fruit butter was; almost made it seem impossible to go back to just 'regular' butter.
Smoked Lamb Tenderloin Salad (RM25)
This is an Asian-inspired concoction prepared using homemade Kerabu salad smothered in calamansi dressing for that added tangy sensation. I'm generally not a big fan of greens, but what I REALLY love about this dish is that it has bits of smoked lamb tenderloin that instantly made me a big fan.
Seafood Bouillabaisse (RM26)
An excellent choice for seafood lovers. Bouillabaisse is a traditional French stew originally created by Marseille fishermen back in the day. It contains a medley of seafood (prawns, clams, etc.) and served with toasted sourdough. The prawns are grilled giving them a smokey taste that goes well with the stew.
Truffled Aglio Olio Pasta (RM26)
We started off our mains with a simple aglio olio served with portobello mushrooms and confit garlic. This dish comes with miso eggplant but given that none of us fancy eggplants, we requested to have them swapped for additional portobello mushrooms instead. Garnished with chilli flakes, it is mildly spicy for that added tangy taste.
The Big Bonfire Platter is a combination platter that allows you to pick and choose your preferred barbecued meat ranging from Wagyu Skirt Steak, Rack of Lamb, Pineapple Glazed Short Ribs, Mediterranean Chicken and for seafood lovers, Whole Red Snapper and Squid Two Ways.
Depending on the size of your party, you have the option of choosing either the 2 meats option (good for 2 persons) or 3 meats option (good for 3-4 persons). We went for the Wagyu Skirt Steak, Rack of Lamb and Squid Two Ways combination.
The Squid Two Ways caught us by surprise -- charred squid stuffed with one of our favourite local delicacies, otak-otak. This harmonious combination of east meets west is extremely tantalising and provided depth to the platter.
The Rack of Lamb is another awesome choice. Medium grilled, the racks are perfectly charred on the outside while the meat inside remains tender -- falls off the bone with minimal effort. This is when you know your lamb rack is cooked to perfection.
My favourite out of the lot is the Wagyu Skirt Steak. Even mentioning it right now is making my mouth water. Wagyu slices grilled to a perfect medium rare (just the way I like it) and served with creamy avocado sauce on the side. I'm a big fan of steak and I can honestly say that this ranks among the best steaks I've EVER tried.
Dessert Teh Tarik Mousse (new menu item)
To cap off our night, the team at Bonfire whipped us up a new dessert that will be launched soon called the Teh Tarik Mousse. Inspired by our local dessert -- the infamous roti canai and condensed milk combination, this dessert encompasses our local heritage (and our knack for sweet tooth). The mousse is made out of tea and you can taste the familiar teh tarik flavour profile. Served with fluffy puff pastries.
If you're looking for an unforgettable dining experience (and if you're a steak hunter like me), do give the team at Bonfire a call and make your reservation today!
