Add a traditional twist as you ease your way into the Christmas week. Specially brewing near you at Taps Beer Bar in Changkat and Mont Kiara, the Gila Gula Melaka Beer (RM32) is a brown ale with palm sugar added during the brewing process as an adjunct to give it a yummy local twist.
This unique beer is brewed by two Malaysians from Taps Beer Bar, under the watchful eye of Taisuke Kourai from the Tokyo Brewing Lab in Japan. Mili Lim, one of the two Malaysians who went to brew the beer in Japan said, “We wanted to brew something with a Malaysian flavour, and being Peranakan myself, gula melaka (palm sugar) seemed like the ideal ingredient to use. So, before the trip, we packed up some gula melaka and brought it to Tokyo because palm sugar isn’t easy to find in Japan".

Get the first taste of the Gila Gula Melaka Beer during the launch from 22-25 December at Taps Beer Bar in Changkat and Mont Kiara. What's beer without some bites? The chef over at Taps Beer Bar has also come up with two new savoury porky beer bites for you to enjoy while going ‘gila’ over gula melaka: Caramelised Roast Pork (RM 20) and Sambal Babi with Sourdough (RM 20).
