Rasa Sayang BBQ Buffet @ Mercure Singapore Bugis
Now, start your engines and race down to Mercure Singapore Bugis, as the Rasa Sayang BBQ Buffet is making a comeback! Expect more than 30 hearty local and traditional delights from now till 9 December 2018.

And as the name suggests, there will be barbecued food! Enter the Royale Restaurant and you’d see a small door that leads to an outdoor patio at the far side. An eloquent BBQ station has been set outside to char and grill your meat of choice for the night.

We were going absolutely crazy for the Japanese Scallop with Minced Garlic from the BBQ station. This was the perfect way for us to start our night, digging into freshly barbecued scallops topped with flavourful minced garlic. We found ourselves slurping every last bit of the minced garlic.
As the seafood are all very fresh, everything else just tasted great. We loved that most of the seafood were lightly seasoned, allowing us to savour the freshness of the meat. That was the case with the Grilled Sotong (or grilled squid).
Be sure to also give the Mini Crawfish with Homemade Spices a try. Its meat was juicy and the homemade spices complimented the whole dish, albeit it had very little meat. But it is a buffet after all, and you can always keep heading back for more.

Not a seafood person? Try the grilled 12-Wonder Beef. It was cook to medium, my preferred doneness.
Don’t fill your tummy with all these awesome BBQ dishes just yet! There’s so much more!

Start with a “local fruit salad” (as I would like to say), or commonly known as Rojak. The rojak station is just one of three DIY stations here at the Royale Restaurant. Pick your favourite fruits and dump them in the mixing bowl. Then, add your desired amount of prawn paste and mix ‘em all up!

If you rather have your seafood boiled and not barbecued, there’s a selection of cold fresh seafood for your eating pleasure.

And if you like your fish fried, the Fried Fish with Fresh Fruits Sauce. As expected, the fish was really fresh and fried to a crisp. The fruity and tangy sauce that accompanied it was also a surprising delight.

Add some carbs into your dinner and munch on the Otah Fried Rice. And just like the way it sounds, it’s fried rice with bits of soft otah.

The Paper Bag Oven-Baked Laksa Chicken is a must-try! When I initially saw this dish, I was a little sceptical. But it turned out amazing. The chicken was marinated for 24 hours before being roasted in a paper bag, allowing it o retain moisture and flavour. Every bite was soft with a “melt-in-your-mouth” feel and a fragrant laksa flavour.

The laksa craze doesn’t end here. Head on over to the noodle station and grab yourself a bowl of Laksa. I must say that this is one of the best laksa noodles I’ve ever had in a hotel buffet. Ever. The broth has a thick consistency and had a good spicy note to it.

Make sure you check out another one of the DIY stations – Royale’s Asian Bao-wich counter. Here, you’d get to create your own Kong Bak Bao or Pork Belly Buns! Here’s how you do it: Pick up a bun and open it up. Then, grab a slice of Braised Five Spice Pork Belly and place it on the bun. Don’t forget to drizzle some sauce! Lastly, add the condiments on the side. If pork isn’t your thing, try sandwiching the Black Pepper Beef or Sweet Turnip.
Pace yourself and always make room for some dessert!

Check out the third DIY station – the Ice Kacang station, where you’d get to make your own ice kacang with as much of your favourite condiments as you like. I personally like mine with lots of atapchi!

The Cempedak Cheesecake was a creamy and sweet delight. I know this combination might sound a bit odd. But trust me when I say that the cempedak (or jackfruit) actually really goes well with cheese.
Calling all durian lovers! The Durian Penyet is a must-try! A traditional durian-based dessert, the durian penyet (or duria pengat to some) features fresh durian with fragrant coconut milk.

Singaporeans always love munching on their local kueh. And you can find lots of them here.
