Creme de la Creme Ice Cream Mooncakes 2019
It's that time of year again! Mooncake festival is just round the corner (13 Sept for those of you who don't know!). And with the recent heatwave, it's no surprise that the demand for ice cream mooncakes is off the charts. Creme de la Creme is introducing their line of ice cream mooncakes - and boy, are we impressed!
Mooncake festival, also known as Mid-Autumn Festival or Lantern Festival, exists as a celebratory time for the Chinese people to give thanks for harvest. It is traditionally also related to the Ancient Chinese legend of Chang'E, the goddess of the moon. It is that exact theme that Creme de la Creme has chosen to base their stunning ice cream mooncakes off.
In their box of four, the ice cream mooncakes featured are of the round, yellow full moon, a Chinese lantern, a fluffy white bunny and a round petit gateaux called Chang'E's Elixir.
The yellow full moon, named "Fly Me To The Moon" is a perfect mix of chocolate ice cream, hazelnut crunch, candied orange, meringue and gold flakes. It also contains a Mandarin sorbet and orange ganache, serving as the "yolk". This was actually my favourite of the whole lot because I felt the flavours of the chocolate and Mandarin went perfectly together.
The other one we sampled was the Little White Rabbit, which is coconut ice cream with raspberry sorbet, mango compote, almond crumble and white chocolate dip. The yolk is made of mango passion fruit sorbet. This is a very tropical-tasting ice cream mooncake and incredibly refreshing.
As for Chang'E's Elixir, though we did not get to sample it that evening at CDLC, we are convinced that the Kyoto Houjicha ice cream is the perfect accompaniment to the sesame crunch, white chocolate dip, dark chocolate garnish, sakura ice cream and lychee rosemary compote.
The other ice cream mooncake available is the Prosperity Lantern, which is made of pistachio ice cream, lemon sponge, strawberry ice cream and homemade strawberry jam.
All four mooncakes come in a box, which is a reasonable RM129. I believe this gift box would easily wow anyone you're giving it because of it's uniqueness in design and flavour.
