Cooking fresh ingredients from Taste Gourmet Market
I received a Taste(y) Care package from Taste Gourmet Market just in time for me to defrost and whip up a delicious western dinner (and fruits for dessert!) for my family of 8!
I have to admit, I've always had bad experiences with delivered groceries, that's why I much prefer going down to the grocery shop/market to hand pick my own ingredients. That way I'd get to personally select the best out of the bunch.
Taste Gourmet Market managed to change my sentiment and gave me a rather positive experience as the ingredients sent over met all my expectations. From the vegetables and fruits to the poultry and frozen seafood, everything arrived fresh and well-packed.
Here's what i managed to whip up in ONE HOUR !
- Beef Lasagna (using Taste's AUS minced Beef)
- Butter Garlic Prawns w/ Broccoli - Pan-seared Chilean Seabass Steak w/ sauteed carrots
- Medium Rare Steaks
As those who often cook would know, how fast western cooking is compared to Asian cooking. As generally the mise-en-place needed to be done is much lesser.
Beef Lasagna Cooking time : 15 minutes for sauce, 35 minutes in oven.
Ingredients needed (we went with a rough estimation):
- Mushrooms (sliced)
- Onions (sliced) - Minced Beef (can be replaced by chicken or pork if preferred)
- Sugar - Italian herb seasoning, salt and pepper
- Tomato sauce
- Ricotta cheese
- Parmesan cheese - Lasagna Skin
Preheat the oven at 180 degrees Celsius.
Sweat onions in a pan over low to medium heat and then add mushrooms. Cook them until soft.
Add minced beef in until fully cooked.
Add tomato sauce and water.
Sprinkle some sugar to adjust the sourness.
Season with herbs, salt and pepper to taste.
Put the cooked filling aside and start to layer your lasagna in your oven-proof dish.
Start with a generous layer of beef filling at the bottom, then add a layer of ricotta cheese and then a layer of lasagna skin.
Repeat the layering until you've reached almost to the top, where you would end with a thick ricotta cheese sauce layer with Parmesan cheese sprinkled at the top before popping it in the oven for about 35-40 minutes.
Keep watch and make sure the top turns a beautiful golden brown and that's when it's good to come out of the oven.
Butter Garlic Prawns with broccoli
Cooking time : 10 minutes
Ingredients needed : - Prawns (Fresh/frozen- thawed and peeled)
- Minced Garlic
- Broccoli - Seasoning: mixed herbs, salt (or garlic salt), pepper
Boil broccoli to soften but careful not to over boil as it will turn yellow and too soft. Drain and put aside.
Melt butter in a pan and fry garlic until golden brown.
Add in prawns into the pan and fry until cooked.
Stir broccoli in until fully coated with butter.
Season to taste.
As for these two yummy main dishes,
Literally anyone can cook this! Just put the fish/steak on the pan and fry!
everyone loves their steak differently; For me, I'm a Medium-rare sort of person so I only cooked mine for 3-4 minutes on each side!
I cooked all these while the lasagna was in the oven to maximise my cooking time efficiently. Overall, it took me only an hour to prepare everything -- the full meal of fish, steak, lasagna, seafood and even made time to whip up a quick dessert.
