Café Montigo, The Star Vista

Montigo Resorts is an award-winning upscale hospitality brand in Indonesia. Its main philosophy is to create an ideal destination for all generations. With the same ethos in mind, Café Montigo is their first full-fledged café that opened in Singapore.

We started off with some interesting drinks. From the left, we have the Malted Malteser Shakeroo ($8.00), it wasn’t so sweet but definitely very creamy. Next, the Tilo Avocado Espresso ($9.50). I love both a good avocado milkshake and coffee, and this unique combination was definitely intriguing. Finally, their Lychee Ginger Cooler ($6.50) was a sweet fizzy drink with a hint of ginger that made it very refreshing.

And on to the mains!

First up, we had the Ayam Panggang Berempah ($13.50). It’s rare to find good authentic Indonesian meals, especially in a café setting, but this checks all the right boxes. The creamy gravy was fragrant and rich, while the chicken was grilled beautifully. The best part was the sambal on the side, I was not expecting it to be as spicy as it was but it was definitely a nice welcome.

Next up was probably the prettiest Gado Gado Salad ($9.00) I’ve seen. The peanut sauce was nice and sweet, but I didn’t find it spicy at all. I think it may be because I had a quite spicy sambal from the previous dish.

The Tadd’s Burger ($13.50) was nice and juicy. The cheese tasted a little too strong for my liking, and the burger was practically oozing cheese. And you might think both fries and wedges as sides made the meal that much more perfect.

Eggs Hemingway ($13.50) is here to satisfy your brunch fix Sunday, all day. Everything from the runny yolk to the savoury smoked salmon was done right. It might not be the most unique dish on the menu, but it’s there for those who’s looking for something you can't go wrong with.

Something pretty unique to Café Montigo is their Martabak Manis ($6.00 each), a popular dessert in Indonesia. Cafe Montigo has added their own twist to this sweet dish. They have four different flavours, Original with Chocolate rice or Cheddar Cheese, Red Velvet with Oreos and Cream Cheese.

But my favorite has got to be the Pandan with Kaya and Cheddar Cheese. It may sound like a weird combination, but trust me it sounded weird to me when i first heard it too. But it works so well! The sweet kaya was a perfect match for the more savoury cheddar. Give it a shot if you’re looking for something different for desserts.

From their menu of Indonesian favourites and western classics, unique desserts, to their adorable mascot -- Tilo, Cafe Montigo stays true to their philosophy, there’s something for every generation.
