Drop Exchange @ Solaris Mont Kiara
Upon entering Drop Exchange, it looks like a cool Wall Street themed bar with drinks as "stocks" that you can bid on.
Located in Solaris Mont Kiara, Drop Exchange's unique stock exchange vibe is elevated by their very own mobile app that enables customers to keep track of the fluctuating price of wine and liquor, and if they are lucky, they are able to buy the bottles at a cheaper price!
It is a very cool concept, and I believe it is the first of its kind in Kuala Lumpur, but the thing that impressed me most was their amazing food!
Based on first impressions, you wouldn't immediately peg Drop Exchange as a place you would go to for Indian and Persian food, but man do they whip up some amazing dishes that is hearty, authentic and full of flavour!
We started off with Hara Bhara Kebab (RM25), which is a healthy Indian vegetarian starter made with spinach, potato and green peas. It was my first time having Hara Bhara Kebab, and I loved the slight crunch from it being deep fried and the soft and light filling, making it a delicious snack.
Drop Exchange's Galouti Kebab (RM28) is another scrumptious starter made from minced mutton, which was juicy and tender. It is served with bread, and dipped in a vibrant green chutney made from mint and coriander.
The Kastoori Kebab (RM30) features boneless chicken breast marinated with kasturi methi (fenugreek leaf), spices, heavy cream, cheese and roasted in a tandoor. The chicken was juicy and tender, and well seasoned. I like how the fenugreek gave a slightly sweet flavour, herby flavour that paired nicely with the chicken.
I absolutely loved Drop Exchange's Chicken Platter (RM40) with a mix of Farcha Chicken, Chargrilled Chicken and Chicken Tikka. All the chicken were exceptionally cooked and seasoned well, they were incredibly juicy and succulent. I can order this platter over and over again!
The Salli Ma Margi (RM25) was one of my favourite dishes of the night. It is a Parsi style chicken curry topped with crunchy potato salli. The curry is so incredibly rich, decadent and flavourful! It was a lovely and delicious dish with brilliant texture.
The Tandoori Butter Chicken (RM28) was another popular dish. Tandoori chicken is a dish I would usually order at a mamak restaurant at night, but Drop Exchange's take on the dish is way more delicious that the ones you get at the mamak shop! Marinated with curd and spices, and roasted in tandoor, the chicken is juicy unlike the dry chicken you can get at the mamak sometimes.
I especially loved Drop Exchange's mint coriander chutney! It pairs amazingly with the Tandoori Chicken, and I can literally eat it with all the dishes!
Palak Paneer (RM28) is one of my favourite Indian dishes. It is Indian cottage cheese cooked with spinach gravy. It is rich, creamy and smooth, and the vibrant green colour makes it all the more inviting to eat!
Rogan Josh (RM40) is one of the most popular mutton dishes. It is a Kashmiri dish that features mutton cooked in aromatic spices and yoghurt, served with basmati rice. It is an intensely flavourful curry, and the lamb is tender and seasoned well.
On the side, we had Drop Exchange's hearty Dal Tadka (RM22) that is a simple but yummy dal, with tempered garlic, whole red chilli and spices.
We also had a Kachumber Salad (RM10) that had diced tomato, cucumber, onion, carrot, with citrus and house spices. It was a slightly underwhelming salad, I wouldn't recommend it.
As a sweet finish, we had Gulab Jamun (RM12) which is a milk-solid-based sweet in pistachio cream and nuts. We also had Besan Barfi (RM15), a popular Indian sweet made with chickpea flour, ghee and flavoured with cardamom. And we had Kulfi (RM15 - bottom photo), a tradition Indian homemade ice cream.
All in all, we had a wonderful meal. You can tell that the dishes were authentic and cooked with love. The prices were reasonable, and the service by the waiting staff was exceptional.
Not to mention that their Happy Hour prices for beers are value for money - RM6.99 for a mug of Tiger Beer!!
I will definitely be back in this unassuming restaurant for more delicious Indian and Persian food, and I would highly recommend readers to try out this restaurant.
