Alter Ego, Esplanade Mall

Indulge your wild side with Alter Ego as they release a series of brand new alcoholic jugs and deliciously sinful bar bites. Located at the artsy waterfront of Esplanade, its hip and urban décor, addictive snacks as well as value for money drinks, makes this my favourite hang out spot to date.

Alter Ego has five new jugs to get the party started.

Their Citrus White and Summer Berry Sangria ($35) is just what you need on a hot day. I love the Citrus White, as it was somewhat like a refreshing lemonade, while the Summer Berry tasted like a juicy and fruity red wine. With Singapore’s warm weather, you can’t go wrong with these any time of the year.

My favourite has got to be Pimm’s Cup ($35), another refreshing drink that’s great to cool you down on a hot day. With its minty, herby taste that resembles a mojito, and with a blast of citrusy sweetness, those of you who love Pimm’s cocktails will love this for sure.

Sheppy’s Dream ($35) is for those who’re looking for something sweeter, though I liked that it wasn’t as sweet as I thought it would be. Made with Sheppy’s elderflower cider, which is exclusive to Alter Ego, it had a nice subtle floral flavour, and strawberries to give a it a juicy punch.

Finally, we had Alter Ego’s Mango-Cranberry and Orange-Pineapple Jungle Juice ($35). Inspired by the concoctions popular in frat parties, don’t be fooled by these deceptively sweet beverages. They are deliberately sweeter to mask the higher amount of alcohol. If you are ready to party, my personal favourite was the tropical mango and cranberry variant.

And to entice you to have more drinks, Alter Ego’s selection of bar bites like their Seaweed/Spicy Popcorn Chicken, Luncheon Meat Shavings and Prawn Paste Chicken Wings (all $5) will satisfy your munchies

From their new selections, the Original/Jalapeño Cheese Poppers ($5) was just divine. Wrapped in crunchy breadcrumbs, the smoky and savoury cheese center just oozes in your mouth. I personally preferred the jalapeño version, which added a nice kick of pickled spiciness.

By far, my favourite was the Southern Fried Chicken Skin ($4). It was so incredibly addictive and the spicy southern powder used was right up my alley. Savoury and spicy, a perfect match with any beer.

Speaking of beer, their happy hour includes two of my new favourite craft beers going at $6 a pop. The Fat Yak and Mac’s Great White had me wanting more of the chicken skin, which in turn made me want more beer. It’s a vicious cycle indeed!

Do come for the food and stay for the drinks. Alter Ego has certainly got me hooked, and we’ve only scratched the surface of the amazing menu they have to offer. If you’re looking for a great new place to hang out, this is the place to be. I know I’ll be coming back as often as I can.
