Catering for functions at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, KL
Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre has always been a prime location to host many corporate events or exhibitions. However, what many of us may not know is that they also boast a full-fledged kitchen to cater for functions! The venue was impressive and very elegant.
We were thus excited to sample their new 8 course Chinese menu which comprises:
Five Happiness Combination Platter
Seafood Chowder with Silken Beancurd and Enoki Mushroom
Roasted Sesame Chicken with Five Spice Salt
Deep-fried Fish Fillet with Tumeric and Ginger Sauce Portuguese Style
Stir Fried Prawn with Shrimp Paste enhanced with curry spice Kum Heong style
Braised San Ken Beancurd Dumpling with Bailing mushroom and broccoli florets
Wok-fried Rice with Shredded Cuttlefish and SIlver Anchovies
Chillled Honeydew Melon with Pearl Sago

As you can see above, the Five Happiness Combination Platter was very well presented! I'm always a fan of combination platters to start off the massive Chinese banquet and this one was no exception. The sugar cane prawn was subtly flavourful with a nice crispy skin. The squid was firm but tender. The sliced abalone mushroom was also delicious. The jellyfish was very fresh and crunchy! The fish cake with salted egg yolk in the centre was my favourite as it was moist and tasty!

The Seafood Chowder was filled with mushrooms and seafood but otherwise I was really disappointed and sad to say that the Seafood Chowder was too starchy for my liking.

The Sesame Chicken, on the other hand, probably the most interesting dish on the menu as we often don't see roasted chicken basted with sesame seeds. It was well-coated with sesame seeds, the flesh was moist and appetising. Keropok were served on the side too!

You can smell the aroma of the spices from The Portuguese Fish Fillet the moment it's srved to you. Taste wise, I thought it was great, but I thought the fish was a little tough and perhaps over-cooked.

The Stir-Fried Prawn came garnished with a variety of cooked capsicum and onions with a bed of shredded carrot and bangkuang. The prawns were also fresh and not overcooked, tender with a subtle curry flavour. I really enjoyed this dish.

The Mushroom dish came in a crown of broccoli and cauliflower with a ring of bean curd dumplings. The mushroom was braised in a lovely stock but I felt this dish was slightly undercooked and the vegetables were still slightly raw. However, the bean curd dumpling was light, spongy and tasty.

I liked that the Fried Rice wasn't too dry, soggy or oily. It even tasted of crispy anchovies, which I liked. But I would have preferred if it had a stronger "wok-hei" flavour.

Ah, the Sago Honeydew, a traditional Chinese banquet finisher! It was light and nicely chilled, the perfect refreshing dessert to finish off the 8 course meal.

In addition to this new set menu, one can order this beautiful Salmon Yee Sang as well! We didn't manage to sample this but it sure looks good!
