The Mockingbird, Damansara City Mall

Sitting down at The Mockingbird, you are momentarily transported to a beach oasis in the Hamptons.

With the cool beachy woven lamps, fairy lights strung across the ceiling, stylish rattan chairs, wooden swings, and the pop of green from the tropical leaves that are printed on the pillows and walls - you almost feel like you're on holiday.

Paired with an ice cold fruity mocktail, and smooth sultry music playing in the background, you are in paradise!

Not only does The Mockingbird have beautiful decor that is totally Instagram-able, their food is also healthy, hearty and delicious!

The Mockingbird serves all-day breakfast as well as more filling meals that are suitable for lunch or dinner.

For their all-day breakfast items, we tried Motherbird's Corned Beef Hash (RM17), and we love it! I usually find most Corned Beef Hash dishes to be overly oily, but Mockingbird’s version seems a bit cleaner and healthier.

The dish replaces potato with sweet potato which is mixed with delicious corned beef and bright purple cabbage, and topped with a lovely sunny side up egg. It is also served with two slices of 'the crunch' which is made out of grains and nuts - delicious!

Next, we tried the unique Nasi Lemak Egg Burrito (RM13) which I absolutely love! Not only is it fun to eat, all the components make it a darn good nasi lemak.

The sambal is delicious, and has a good balance of sweetness and spiciness. The egg is just thin enough to wrap up Mockingbird's famous ten-grain rice and vegetables. It is also served with shredded lettuce on the side along with cucumber, peanuts and fried anchovies.

I love both the breakfast dishes we tried, and I would not hesitate to order either one again. I will even have them for lunch

For a more filling meal, The Mockingbird has their 'nasi campur bowls' that features a fusion different cuisines.

I also like that you're able to choose your grains, you can pair your dish with a choice of ten grain rice, brown rice, pearled barley and quinoa, or couscous.

We tried Mockingbird's Tempeh Rendang (RM19), which is a twist on Malaysia's typical rendang that is usually served with chicken or beef.

The Mockingbird's version uses tempeh in their rendang dish, and I must say that it is one of the best tempeh dishes I had. It had the perfect consistency and a nice bite. On top of that, it was enveloped in a spicy rendang sauce.

It is paired perfectly with fresh and crunchy spiced four angled beans and pea sprouts.

This is my first time trying Chicken Creole (RM22) which is a dish that is a blend of the various cultures of New Orleans, United States. The dish is influenced by the Italians, Spanish, African, German, Caribbean, Native American and Portuguese.

Now, The Mockingbird has thrown a bit of Malaysia into the mix with their version of the dish! The chicken is rich and so full of flavour, and has a hint of spice. The black bean and bell pepper salad on the side is fresh and is a perfect accompaniment.

The Mockingbird's Korean Spiced Beef (RM22) is another hit! The dish is inspired by Korean barbecue bulgogi, but their version is made with minced beef cooked with a bunch of spices that gives the dish a kick.

It is served with homemade hot sauce, runny egg, cucumber with shredded cabbage and carrot.

The Moroccan Lamb Tangine (RM25) is another recommended dish. The lamb slow cooked to infuse all the delicious spices and to make the lamb fall-off-the-bone-tender. I cannot tell you how delicious that lamb is!

It is served with a delicious chickpeas confit, sprinkled with pomegranate, cranberries and orange, and finished with a homemade orange sauce.

The Mockingbird's Chicken Shawarma (RM22) transforms the popular Middle Eastern dish into something completely different.

The chicken is without the greasy fat and it is without the wrap. Instead, the chicken is marinated with Middle Eastern spices and served on a bed of healthy grains. It is also served alongside a lovely chickpea and cucumber salad and Mockingbird's amazing homemade kebab sauce.

To finish off our amazing meal, we indulged in a guilty-free healthy smoothie bowl! We tried the Very Berry Antioxidant (bottom left), If You Like Pina Colada (bottom right) and Strawberries And Cream (top) which are all priced at RM23.

We love all the smoothie bowls, and they were packed full of fruits, oats, chia seeds and other healthy goodies. It is perfect for breakfast, a snack, or dessert!

We also tried a variety of Mockingbird's hand crafted mocktails (RM15). We tried the Pineapple Lemonarita, Watermelon Basil Iced Tea, Frozen Blackberry Crush, and Cool Kyuri Lemonade.

We love all of them! They're all perfect for a hot sunny day.

Those looking for a caffeine hit can also indulge in Mockingbird's selection of coffees, such as this lovely Iced Latte (RM13).

I like that The Mockingbird is also environmentally conscious. They serve all their cold drinks with reusable metal straws. Not only do they look totally cool, it also reduces our plastic waste. All takeaways also come in paper boxes rather than plastic.

Overall, The Mockingbird has everything! Fantastic atmosphere, good food, reasonable price, plus Damansara City Mall (DC Mall) has plenty of parking - which is always a plus!

I am utterly in love with The Mockingbird, I feel like I can stay there the whole day cuddled up with a good book, pretending that I am at the Hamptons instead!
