Hotel Jen is really the place to be if you're visiting JB from Singapore or KL. The weekend we decided to drive down to JB, Hotel Jen was bustling with families and travellers from both major cities. It's no surprise that this hotel is one of the more popular ones - just look at that stunning view of Puteri Harbour.

We were privileged enough to be invited for a tasting session of their menu - just a few dishes to sample. Our menu for the evening was specially curated by the chef and we even had it printed out and placed at our seats. What a great way to start the meal!

We were then served warm bread while waiting for our appetisers. Though the outdoor dining area was booked out for the night for a private function, we still got to enjoy the view of the sunset from our indoor dining room.

Our first dish arrived soon after. We started the meal off with an Alaskan crab cake, which was deep fried and certainly piqued our tastebuds. It tasted incredibly fresh and the mango salsa absolutely complemented the dish wonderfully.

We were then treated to a lobster bisque - we couldn't get enough of this! The bisque was not too overpowering and went well with the crab roe. It was a light second starter, which prepared us well for the mains.

Most of us dining that night decided to try the grain fed Angus steak (250gm), which was executed fairly. However, it seemed to lack a little flavour. Nothing a little pinch of sea salt and a dash of black pepper couldn't fix though!

I decided instead, to go with the salmon en papillote, cooked with vegetables in paper. The salmon came out perfectly cooked, just the right amount of pink in the middle and that lightly seated top to give it varying textures.

Finally, for dessert, we indulged in our own pot of tiramisu, it looked like a garden to beautiful to eat. But we were eager to try the tasty looking dessert and we were certainly not disappointed.

Overall, our meal at Hotel Jen was lovely. It provided one of the most romantic atmospheres and the food was worth the prices and the drive. We would readily head back there again.
