Recently, the foodievstheworld team took a short drive to Sekinchan, about an hour’s drive away from the KL City Centre. Sekinchan is one of the best short getaways from KL, as it is a really laidback town, with gorgeous paddy fields and it’s also by the sea, so you can enjoy the beach, if you want.

While we were driving past the picturesque paddy fields, a cluster of colourful containers caught our eye and we decided to detour into the paddy fields to check it out. And purely by chance, we found Padi Box, a homestay and cafe in Sekinchan. Homestays are common in Sekinchan, but this seems to be one of the newer ones in the area.

The friendly folks at Padi Box told us that they’ve only opened in January this year but they are already booked out most weekends. That comes as no surprise to us. The lovely homestay is located right in the middle of the paddy fields and offers stunning views of both the sunrise and sunset.

You can rent bicycles here to cycle around the paddy fields – a great weekend leisurely activity. Or if you want to just sit by the paddy fields to enjoy the breeze, they’ve got plenty of outdoor seating areas for you to enjoy.

Padi Box is also a cafe, open to the public. You can sit indoors when the weather is warm, but still enjoy the views through the glass window.

They’ve decorated the cafe area in a kitschy, quirky way and it’s a nice vantage point to enjoy the paddy fields.

Outdoor seating is also available. It’s a really nice place to just chill with friends and get away from the city for a weekend staycation. I dare say this is one of the best staycation spots outside of KL. There is ample parking space, so driving here (which seems to be the only feasible option at this point) is no issue.

Rooms for two on the ground floor start at RM118 on weekdays and RM148 on the weekends, while the first floor rooms start at RM128 on weekdays and RM158 on weekends. Be sure to book them early to avoid disappointment.
