You may or may not have heard of a little thing that’s happening at Marina Bay called the Prudential Carnival. If you haven’t, where have you been? I mean, it’s only the largest carnival in town right now!
Approaching the Promontory at night, It’s hard to miss the large neon sign that marks the entrance of the carnival. With all the colourful bright lights, the smell of food in the air, and something to check out at every turn, a sense of excitement got me all giggly like a small child.
With admission being free, you can get a token card onsite and fill it with credits ($1 = 1 credit), with rides being an average of 10 credits and games about 5 credits.
You have the freedom to pick and choose what you want to do most, without feeling like you need to try everything.
The centrepiece at the Promontory section is the 35m tall Sky Flyer ($10 per ride). Looking beneath you and see the carnival grounds zipping by was pretty exhilarating. But sitting back and watching the CBD and Marina Bay pass by as you glide in the air felt almost ethereal.
As scary as this ride may look, only those who have a fear of heights would need to steer clear. It's quite slow and takes you round and round at 35m above ground to see Singapore's city view.
If you're seeking for something with a little more thrill, check out Das Fun Shiff ($10 per ride), which translates to The Fun Ship. You'd constantly feel that "sinking dropping" feeling with this ride that swings you aggressively from side to side.
What's a fun fair without a roller coaster? The Euro Coaster ($10 per ride) is sure to make you scream! Unfortunately, it doesn't have loops, just lots of scary and high drops.
Ladies and gents, be prepared to scream your lungs out riding the Mach 5 ($14 per ride). The Mach 5 is not for the faint of heart, as you'd be spun round and round at super speed!
There's even a carousel for those of you who might be travelling with young ones! The Gallopers ($8 per ride) is sure to appeal to all kids.
Once you've had your fun riding the rides, it's time to eat. We highly suggest that you eat only after you've played all the rides.
Here're are some of our favourites here.
Highlights of the night include Hyde and Co’s Bolognese Pasta ($10) and Paul’s Pulled Beef Sandwich ($10), which was amazing and really juicy, so be sure grab some extra napkins.
To my delight, FunnieLicious had Elotes, a popular Mexican street food, grilled corn smothered with mayo, butter, lime, cheese and chili salt, an all time favourite of mine. I finished the entire cob before you could say ¡Aye Carmaba!
And what’s a day at the carnival without getting something for that perfect instagram shot from Over The Rainbow. The Unicorn Swirl ($7.90) was creamy and looks and taste just as sweet.
And we’ve only scratched the surface of all the things you can do at the Prudential Carnival. With over 40 rides and game booths, more than 20 stalls of tantalising grubs, put on some comfortable shoes, grab your friends and family, and make a date for a fun filled day
