As the saying goes, mommy's cooking is always the best!
JR Group, the people who brought you Chef-In-Box VendCafe hosted a cooking competition for mothers over the Mother’s Day weekend.
Chef-In-Box VendCafe is the first of its kind in Singapore, providing you with ready-to-eat meals steaming hot or cold (if you want to take it home and warm it yourself) out of a vending machine.
In last weekend’s cooking competition, 5 mommy finalists competed for prizes up to $1,500 and a chance to feature their signature winning dish in Chef-In-Box’s inaugural Heritage Series that honours heritage dishes through healthy home-recipes.
The panel of judges included Tony Chng, CEO of JR Group; Chef Jeremy Lim, Group Culinary Director of JR Group; Chef Eric Neo, Executive Chef of Intercontinental Hotel & Celebrity Chef; and Mr Augustine Ow, Center Manager of JCube (CapitaLand).
In the competition, mommy Elaine Teng took home the first prize with her Shepherd’s Pie with Ayam Masak Merah.
80-year-old mommy (and grandma) Nancy Quek came in second and although she didn't walk away any prizes, her dish, which she mentioned was inspired by her grandma, will also be featured in Chef-In-Box’s inaugural Heritage Series. That way, you'd also get a change to try a recipe passed down from generations.
Senior Minister of State for the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources and Ministry of Health Dr Amy Khor graced the event as Guest of Honour, and showed her support for initiatives that encourage family bonding and community development through healthy cooking and eating.
Here are the rest of the mommy finalists and their dishes. All the dishes looked and smelled so good, I can only imagine how difficult being a judge for this competition would be.
Mommy Shardha Pram with her Navratan Pulao
Mommy Ng Wei Chee with her Toppa Lada
Mommy Jenny Wong and her Hainanese Chicken Stew
Do watch out for Chef-In-Box’s inaugural Heritage Series that will feature both Madam Teng's and Madam Quek's dishes!
