The thing with my old built in oven is that now that I’m moving houses, it’s a hassle for me to bring it over to the new place. Worse still, it’s been about 18 years since we got this oven and it is starting to show its age. There’s no point in repairing it nor moving such a bulky item into my new, smaller place.
But when Panasonic introduced their new electric oven, which comes with all the settings of a built-in oven and all the convenience of a portable one.
During the launch event of the oven, we made gorgeous unicorn cupcakes, which was pretty simple to do - something everyone can try at home. But we also tried something a little more technical - a salted egg yolk cheesecake with chicken floss. This was an interesting twist to the traditional dessert and gave it a savoury flavour.
But of course, the true test came when I got home and tried out the oven for myself with a home recipe. I was 3 days out from running the first ever event for my company and I was told we had more participants than food. So I got to baking 100 cupcakes in the new oven and boy, did it hold up well.
The cupcakes turned out beautifully and as bakers know, baking is an art and a science combined. You need a certain level of precision, while still leaving space for finesse. Panasonic’s new oven takes care of the precision for you, giving you plenty of space to express your creativity when it comes to the post-baking stage.
As you can see, the appliance is compact and fits into any kitchen space. But it is big enough that you could probably roast a decently sized turkey for Christmas.
Here’s the simple recipe I used that you can follow at home too:
100 g butter 2/3 cup caster sugar 1 tsp vanilla essence 2 whole eggs (lightly beaten) 1 cup self-raising flour (sifted) 1/3 cup cocoa (sifted) 1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda 1/2 cup milk
STEP 1 Preheat oven to 160C. Prepare 12 hole muffin tray or 24 hole mini muffin tray. STEP 2 Sift all dry ingredients into a mixing bowl. STEP 3 Make a small well in the middle of the bowl and then add remaining ingredients. STEP 4 Beat on low speed with electric mixer until just combined. STEP 5 Scrape down sides of bowl and beat on medium speed for a further two minutes. STEP 6 Place tablespoons of the mixture into 12 hole muffin tray until holes are half full. Heaped teaspoon of mixture for mini muffins. STEP 7 Place tray into oven for 15-18 minutes for 12 hole muffin pan or 10-12 minutes for mini muffin pan. STEP 8 Stand for 5 minutes and then turn out onto wire rack to cool.
