You wouldn't instantly think of JB as a staycation destination... but if you're living in Singapore, JB is just across the causeway and really, quite convenient to access. And if you're entering Malaysia through the Causeway Link and other public buses, you get out at the CIQ building.
You don't need to rent a car to get around the hottest spots in JB and now with Grab and Uber, you won't need to fight with the local taxi touts trying to make a quick buck off you. But if you don't want to deal with the traffic around JB, walking is also an option you can consider.
The Replacement Lodge + Kitchen is a popular haunt for many Singaporeans during the weekend for brunch, but did you know that you can also stay here? The Replacement Lodge + Kitchen is a beautiful bed and breakfast combination that will provide you with everything you need for the perfect weekend staycation.
We recently did a staycation weekend there (full review here) and loved our entire experience from start to end.
But one of the best things about this bed and breakfast place is of course, their breakfast. Since the accommodation is right upstairs from the cafe, it is only natural that breakfast is included in your stay package and you get to dine there.
However, it gets really crowded on the weekends, so be sure to head down early so you can start your day right with a hearty breakfast.
The offerings here at The Replacement Lodge + Kitchen range in variety and there will certainly be a dish for everyone. Though there is a special menu for breakfast for hotel guests, you can also have some of their main breakfast dishes.
We tried their version of a big breakfast, which is pretty standard fare. We absolutely love the bread that they use here - top quality and toasted perfectly.
But if it is one dish we all agreed was pretty mouthwatering (but may be a little heavy for some) is their berries french toast. This dish comes with ice cream (the best part of being an adult is having ice cream for breakfast!) and a berry compote that is to die for!
The french toast brioche buns are fluffy, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside - just the way all brioche buns should taste!
We also tried their soft shell crab bao, which is a very rich dish as well. The soft shell crab goes incredibly well with the bao and the dish is served with fries. The portion is a little small but good for one person, especially if you're not looking for anything too heavy.
One of the favourites here is of course, their eggs benedict. The typical brunch dish is served with perfectly poached eggs and salmon (with beef ham options available as well).
But if you're looking for something a little more on the healthy side, give their salad a try. It is a mix of greens with avocado and tomato. Lovely light meal to start the day off with.
We also tried their unagi bao, which was an easy favourite for the mentaiko sauce and beautiful presentation, of course. We loved the baos here - they were just so soft and tasty.
And finally, we ended our breakfast meal with churros and chocolate sauce. Like I mentioned before, there certainly is something for everyone here. The churros had the right consistency and made for the perfect end to the meal.
If you're staying here at The Replacement Lodge + Kitchen, I would also recommend you try out their dinner tapas, which is a totally different menu and experience from brunch! Our full post on the dinner tapas here.
