The Refinery is a hidden gem tucked away in Lavender with the typical trappings of a hipster cafe - black industrial chic interior and indie music wafting out of the speakers.
They've even got a cute mural on the wall. I love cafes like this - especially when it's quiet and it's a rainy afternoon.
I had a really lovely praline coffee - the praline coffee comes in a ball and you pour the warm milk over it to see it melt. Stir the praline and milk and enjoy a beautiful blend of flavoured coffee.
My lunch date decided to order salted egg onion rings - talk about having salted egg everything, huh? But this was really good - the onion ring batter was slightly sweet and with the salted egg sauce, it gave it an overall savoury finish.
My lunch date also had a beautiful bowl of gyuniku don, which is one of the favourites here for their weekday lunch menu.
I went with a pulled pork spicy noodle with pork balls and fried shallots. I wouldn't say the noodles are incredibly spicy but they're definitely tasty. However, this portion is pretty huge for a small eater like me and I had to take it away. But they put it in a really cute Chinese takeout box and that made me smile, for some reason.
I would like to go back to The Refinery soon to try more of their dishes. They have different menus for brunch on the weekends and dinner. I hear dessert is also a must-try here.
