Underground Coffee, Taman OUG
Hunting for good coffee places in KL can sometimes be mundane. While there are many new cafes that pop up ever so often, only a handful are memorable offering unique menu items for us to try.
Underground Coffee @ Taman OUG is one of them. Established in August 2018, they are part of a new breed of cafe offering unique ways to sip your favorite espresso. The cafe currently operates in The Red Chamber; a new and hip speakeasy in the mature neighborhood of OUG, effectively turning this place into a coffee parlor by day and a mysterious cocktail + craft beer establishment by night.

What makes them unique is that instead of using traditional espresso machines, they utilize the good ol’ method of coffee filtration. With carefully measured temperature, pressure and flow, they are able to create full crema that rivals those big commercial espresso machines. And all this is done mechanically which was impressive!
Passion Fruit Latte
And the creativity doesn’t stop there. If you’re looking to deviate away from the classics, they also have specialty coffee drinks to choose from. My favorite is the passion fruit latte (pictured above).
I typically don’t like flavored coffee as I find that they ruin the espresso taste but they have managed to made theirs to maintain a strong latte taste with delicious hints of passion fruit at the end. A must try if you’re looking for something new to satisfy your caffeine cravings.
Espresso & Soda
Another unique drink they have is their carbonated espresso (pictured above). They’ve carefully combined soda water with a shot of espresso and topped it of with ice. Its a different way to have your coffee and it’s definitely refreshing especially on a hot afternoon.
Green Tea Cheese Cake

You can also pair your drinks with delicious homemade cakes and waffles also available at the cafe. The Matcha Cheesecake is perfect for you green tea lovers out there but my personal favorite is the Nutella Cheesecake because, well, it is NUTELLA! Both these cakes are homemade and have the right amount of sweetness which is not too overwhelming.
Waffles & Berries
They also have delicious waffles served with with strawberries, blueberries and chocolate sauce; a classic that everyone is familiar with.
Overall, I am impressed with how they have crafted their menu to keep things simple yet interesting and unique at the same. I’ll definitely be back for their coffee and the yummy Nutella cheese cake!
