Unagiya Ichinoji Dining, Suntec City, Eat At Seven
Die-hard unagi fans: rejoice, you’re in for a treat! Early this year, Unagiya Ichinoji launched its first outlet in Singapore (which you can take a look here), and just recently they unveiled their second outlet at Suntec City’s Eat At Seven!

Not only are they offering a spread of unagi dishes -- they have an expanded menu unlike its first outlet at Robinson Quay -- featuring sashimi, sushi, deep-fried dishes and hot plates just to name a few.
But we are here for a main reason: to their specialty unagi of course!
First up, we had the Hitsumabushi ($32.80++), a signature dish from Miyagawa’s outlets in Japan. As an ex-flight attendant, one of the few things I missed most was travelling to Japan and having authentic unagi. I could only say that each savouring bite brought back memories from trips to Nagoya.
There are three ways to enjoy this dish: on its own; with the side condiments of nori, wasabi and green onions; and lastly with clear dashi to the mix. A personal favourite would be to add everything together and mix it up for that interesting flavour that celebrates the unagi!
The next two dishes are currently exclusive to Eat At Seven’s outlet, namely the XL Unagi Bara Chirashi ($62.80++) and the Unagi Gozen ($46.80++). These two dishes have two choices of base that you can pick from, the soft, fluffier and sticky Nanatsuboshi white rice or the Premium 16 Multigrains that are healthier and heavier.
The XL Unagi Bara Chirashi is apparently first of its kind in Singapore, featuring a mix of sashimi (tuna, salmon, yellow tail and scallops). This colossal dish is highly recommended for at least four persons to share, unless you’re up for an almost impossible challenge!
This dish balances its sweet and savoury notes well with different textures, and in my opinion, it would be best to go with the Nanatsuboshi white rice as its base for it can be too heavy.
If you can’t seem to make a choice from the selections that Unagiya Ichinoji Dining has to offer, you could most likely go for the Unagi Gozen. It highlights unagi, A1-grade Hokkaido wagyu beef, braised Ibérico pork belly, tempura and sashimi. It even includes soup and dessert! We felt that the substantial dish has too many flavours and it could be pretty overwhelming to have it all, but it would be a great choice if you would like to try out almost everything Unagiya Ichinoji Dining has to offer. The miso soup was light and had a slight yuzu taste which we found interesting.
The desert that the Unagi Gozen comes with is called the Warabi Mochi, and its sesame decadence ends the Gozen meal well.
An opening promotion is ongoing till end of October as well, for every second order of Hitsumabushi will be at 50% off ($16.40++)! It’s very worth it for the authentic unagi you’ll be relishing!
We were overwhelmed by the huge spread that each set had to offer, so if you’re in for communal dining, or just one with voracious appetite for Japanese cuisine, Unagiya Ichinoji’s an unagiyaaaaas!
