Twenty Eight Cafe @ 28 Wilkie Road

On a late Saturday afternoon, we wandered up the streets to this old heritage building tucked on the corner of the road leading up a to a hill. There it was, a minimalistic laid back cafe located in a heritage building.

The open space and high ceilings with simple light fittings gives off a restrained industrial vibe and it makes you feel right at home. There is a common table in the middle of the cafe and some greenery that gives a fresh tropical look to the place.

One of the plus points of this dining space is that almost every table has a power plug point, which encourages diners to bring in their laptops to study, have small meetings or discussions among university students and young working adults. It's almost like a co-working space but with a full dining menu which makes it even better!

We started off with a hot latte ($5.90) which was quite creamy and had an aromatic smell of the blended coffee beans.

We also got to taste a rendition of their homemade shaken ice lemon tea ($4.90), one of the popular iced drinks on a hot sunny day.

If you are thinking of indulging in something healthy to fill you up right after (or before) the gym without feeling too guilty, then this Acai Smoothie Bowl ($14.90) will be a perfect choice for you. It is served with a blend of fresh acai berries topped with a generous portion of granola, rolled oats, freshly sliced bananas and strawberries finished off with a dash of chia seeds and desiccated coconut. We truly enjoyed this dish, it was very refreshing and totally insta-worthy!

Next, we had the Eggs Benedict ($16.90) that resembles a nest with two chicks in it. The perfectly poached eggs sits on top of the crispy hash which was really delicious. Sadly, the hollandaise sauce was a bit too salty for my liking, but other than that, the other elements of this dish was cooked perfectly.

Moving on, we had the Smoked Salmon Igloo ($18.90) that came with crispy sourdough on the side, which was absolutely mouthwatering. Inside the dome shaped smoked salmon was a perfectly poached egg and homemade guacamole. The serving of sour-cream and onion dip on the side brought the whole dish together. This was simply appetising and we really enjoyed this combination and the element of surprise.

We were served this beautifully plated Cold Truffle Pasta ($19.90). The angel hair pasta was tossed in generous amounts of italian truffle oil and Japanese Kombu seaweed. This is a perfect example of "Less is More", something so simplistic that tastes completely bombastic.

This next dish, Pig-out sandwich ($17.90) is for all the meat lovers out there looking for a hearty sandwich. The toasted sourdough bread sandwiched a generous helping of Spanish pulled pork, cooked ham, tangy yellow mustard and pickled gherkins. This is perfect for sharing and was extremely tasty. A great combination of flavours with crispy fries on the side. A must try when you visit Twenty-Eight Cafe!

Finally, dessert is served! These knotted Indian Churros ($4.90) is inspired by the traditional roti prata which is made with a flaky dough and twisted to resemble a knot. To complete this dish, a sugary cinnamon powder is sprinkled over the top. It is best to eat this while it's still hot.

There are cakes on offer as well if you would just like to chill with a book and good cup of coffee. Dig into a carrot cake or indulge in a black chocolate truffle cake for only $7.90 each.

Overall, we had a great dining experience and all the brunch dishes were well executed. This is a place where you can come and unwind, relax and escape from the busy city of Singapore. Gather your friends and head on over for easy comfort meals all at nett prices!
