TRACE, Element by Westin

To a budding #ecowarrior, the Element brand by Westin is both compelling and extremely attractive. Pursuing this idea of sustainability, this eco-friendly hotel chain seeks to offer not only a comfortable and luxurious stay, but also to leave minimal footprints behind. From their exoskeleton architecture that uses recycled rainwater to feed all the greenery inside and around the hotel, to the package-less amenities in the guest rooms, this sort of environmental accountability is definitely something I wholeheartedly support.

So it perhaps wouldn't be surprising to find that TRACE, Elements' resident restaurant, was created around the concept that every patron will be able to TRACE back the origins of their food to a local farm or producer. From the vegetables, to spices, to meats, TRACE promises to deliver good food, without any accompanying guilt. And they certainly accomplished just that!

Expect interesting fusion starters, such as the sour and sweet 'Kerabu Mangga Isi Ketam' - a lovely combination of refreshing fruits and traditional pickled mango; and the savoury Live Well Salad - a wonderful seafood salad with a generous portion of fresh crab meet.

They also serve a delectable Malaysian Oxtail Soup, full of flavour but light at the same time, probably my favourite dish from this restaurant. Similarly, they did not fall short on the Wild Mushroom Soup and it competed fairly well against the Oxtail, even though the latter still won my vote in the end.

TRACE outshines many other hotels (and some restaurants, we dare say), in their local dishes such as Nasi Goreng, Yee Mee, and some seriously succulent home-made chicken satay. These are dishes surely both locals and visitors will be able to enjoy. And we definitely recommend trying these. For their Western dishes, we tried the Salmon Fillet with Saffron Cream Sauce, Fish & Chips, and Corn-fed Chicken with Spinach a la Creme, which showcases the restaurant's ability in providing a wide range of choices for its patrons.

But the desserts definitely redeemed the mains and is a must-try here. All in all, I cannot help but be a big supporter of where TRACE and Element stand, so I'll be sure to pay it a second visit soon.
