Tempura Tenya Tendon @ Orchard Central
Japan's best-loved Tendon chain restaurant, Tempura Tenya Tendon has opened its first outlet in the heart of bustling Singapore, at Orchard Central. Be greeted by cheerful Uncle Ben with a hearty and comforting bowl of Japanese favourites made fresh to order.
Tempura Tendon Tenya offers no-frills, good quality, and pocket-friendly meals with their Tendon, the signature item on the menu. The Tendon is served in a donburi bowl using quality and authentic Aomori Japanese rice as its base, with lightly battered seafood / meat / vegetable of your choice, then drizzled with Tenya's signature umami-rich tare glaze sauce.

Diners may enjoy their signature Tendon on its own (from $9.90), or have it in a set that comes with your choice of hot or cold soba or udon on the side. The Seafood Tendon set ($17.30) comes with a myriad of seafood such as Black Tiger prawn, anago saltwater eel, scallop, red fish, with an addition of Japanese pumpkin and local French beans for some added fibre, accompanied by a warm miso soup as part of the set as well.

The tendon sets range also includes vegetarian option such as the Mushroom Vegetables Tendon ($7.90 for a la carte; $11.90 for set) that sees steaming rice topped with tempura vegetables such as locally sourced shiitake, shimeji and enoki mushrooms, sweet potato, lotus root, Japanese pumpkin and local French beans. Do expect other variation of tendon toppings such as chicken and other seafood combination on their menu as well.

The menu also offers an array of their signature Tempura with either soba or udon noodles served hot or cold (from $11.90).We particularly enjoyed both soba and udon noodles served cold as it had a nice springy al-dente texture to it.

Besides serving amazing Tendons, Tenya offers a mouth-watering selection of appetisers to share as well. Start off with a refreshing chilled Tomato Salad ($5.80) that features specially selected Japanese tomato with a sesame dressing, and garnished with thinly shredded onions. Other worthy-to-order appetisers include crispy Truffle Fries ($3.90) and Tori Karaage fried chicken ($4.90).

Finally, end your meal with a cone of creamy and velvety smooth Hokkaido Soft Serve ($2 nett) made with dairy products entirely from Tokachi, Hokkaido.
With highly innovative technology used in their cooking such as infrared technology to absorb excess oil from frying, to serving food using their in-house robot named Peanut, Tenya has definitely brought Japan's culture, cuisine and hospitality to Singapore whilst maintaining delicious quality tendon at a great value.
Do note that Tenya does not take reservations and is strictly on a walk-in basis; the prices stated are not inclusive of service and tax charges unless stated otherwise.
