Rajawali Ramadan Buffet, Genting SkyAvenue

We’re halfway through Ramadan and it makes me long for some traditional Malay food especially when we see it everywhere in town. But if you are up in Genting and you’re looking to break fast with some good traditional Malay cuisine, check out Rajawali. With a hundred over dishes from all parts of Malaysia featured in the Ramadan buffet, Rajawali wanted to bring back the olden days and some invoke good memories with this spread.

As we entered the dining space, we saw a lot of food stalls giving us that market feel. It was also great to see so many live stations with chefs serving you fresh food straight from the pot.

The first dish we tried was Nasi Kukus Bamboo with Ayam Rempah. The bamboo rice was sweet and packed with aromatic flavours. The Ayam Rempah was also marinated and perfectly cooked. Tender on the inside and a little crispy on the outside, it went perfectly with the rice.

As we furthered our journey, we were captured by the smell and fragrance from the Sup Citarasa Awana Stall -- a restaurant specialty -- and we decided to give it a try. We tried one of their recommendations, which was the Sup Daging. The meat just fell off the bone and the overall dish was filled with a clash flavours and aromas (but in a good way). If you fancy something to go along with soup, you can also pair it with noodles.

Next on, we tried their ikan bakar and also some otak-otak from their Malaysian street food section. The fish and otak-otak were both very well marinated. The flavourful marination just bursts in your mouth and it’s good without any sauce to pair with.

For something lighter, the kerabu station had a great selection to choose from. One of our favourites was the Kerabu Manga, with the combination of sweet, sour and a little spicy, along with fresh crisp mango and some cucumber, it was really the best to have after the initial heavy dishes.

And finally, we moved on to the dessert station right in front of the entrance. Serving up to 57 homemade kuih, it was a dizzying variety for us to choose from.

Besides kuih, under the dessert section there is also ice cream - which is a great way to pique the nostalgia.
The next time you’re thinking of breaking fast with your family in Genting, this will be one of the places we would highly recommend. Bring your family along to Rajawali for a great family bonding experience with some traditional food.
