From the folks who brought you Malai Thai Restaurant, hails a brand new concept that focuses on sushi, with ingredients that are air flown directly from Japan.
Upon arriving, I was greeted warmly by the team and was seated at the bar area. The bar has an open kitchen concept, where I could watch how Executive Chef Joe San prepare his beautiful work of art.
Executive Chef Joe San, who has more than 18 years of experience as a Sushi Chef, emphasises a lot about the freshness of the sashimi served here. He also pays close attention to detail with the quality of the sashimi as soon as it arrives to the restaurant. He ensures all fresh produce are stored well, and only the best cuts of sashimi are served to his customers. (Tuesdays are the best days to dine as this is when the sashimi will be delivered to the restaurant).
We were served an impeccable trio of appetisers. On plate was a Spicy Tuna with Caviar, lightly salted Edamame and a "Seafood Pack". I loved the spicy tuna amongst the other appetisers. The "seafood pack" was rather interesting, it reminded me of little fried "money bags" that you get in a Chinese Restaurant. As for the edamame, it added a light refreshing balance to the other two protein rich appetisers.
Here we have, Nihon No Sashimi Moriawase Platter (RM90/person). This simply means, Chef's selection of sashimi. Chef Joe had prepared me thick cuts of Tuna, Butterfish, Salmon, Mackerel and Snapper. I loved how fatty and fresh these cuts of sashimi were. There wasn't much chewing needed as the texture was buttery and easily melted in your mouth.
Up next was a refreshing bowl of Tuna Salad (RM38). Expect a few pieces of lightly seared tuna, a bed a generous portion of crisp green lettuce, pieces of sliced zesty fresh orange, crunchy Japanese cucumber, julienned carrots, beetroot and seaweed. All these come tossed with creamy sesame dressing and fish roe. I especially liked how they added bits of toasted tortilla in the salad, adding a nice crunch to the salad.
I had a medley of deep fried seafood Tempura Moriawase (RM34), which consists of prawns, squid, fish and vegetables. The tempura pieces were all wonderful. The batter was thin enough that it doesn't take away from the flavour of what it is coating, but thick enough to give you that wonderful crunch when you bite into it and the tempura was not too oily. On the side, was a house made Tentsuyu dipping sauce that really brought the whole dish together.
At last, Chef Joe San had prepared me a platter of Nigiri Sushi to end my night. I must say, the nigiri here is worth it, especially with it being thick in slice and fresh to taste. In addition to that, Chef Joe San had made sure that the sushi rice was not the dominant component, but having the seafood be the star of it all.
For all you sushi enthusiast, or ones who are looking to spend on quality sashimi -- on a budget, this new sushi joint is the ideal place for you.
Not to mention, they also have very reasonable priced lunch sets that range from RM30-RM40 (Available on weekdays only). Now isn't that a bang for a buck -- especially for all you working adults in the main business district?
Lastly, for those of you who are a little bit more adventurous, they do have Omakase sessions from RM200 and above. Do call them beforehand for more information or to make a reservation.
