National Day Menu at Grains & Hops @ YOTEL, Orchard Road

National Day in Singapore is right around the corner and in conjunction with the city state’s 53rd birthday, Grains & Hops in YOTEL is bringing you a special menu that features a quirky play on some local favourites.

These dishes are the brainchild of Chef Mark, who was inspired to create these dishes when he was overseas for a while and missing the food back home.

These dishes will only be available till 31 August 2018, so don't wait too long!

First up, we tried the Oyster Omelette Cracker ($13++). A juicy Korean oyster deep fried in tempura batter was paired with a crunchy puffed tapioca chip and topped with sweet and sour chilli sauce, giving this dish a good combination of soft and crispy textures.

Singapore is a country filled with tonnes of amazing food and Singaporeans alike are proud of the local flavours. When asked about that one dish Singapore is amazing for, the Chilli Crab always comes to mind.

Grains & Hops came up with their own rendition of this famous local dish – the Chilli Crab Rillette ($16++). One thing I love about this is that Grains & Hops is definitely not stingy when it comes to serving the crab meat. With this dish, you would expect a generous dollop of crab meat mixed with a homemade chilli sauce sitting on top of a crispy rice cracker.

We had the Prawn Noodle Soup Croquette ($14++), which is also another interesting play on the equally famous local dish. Think: (a sort of) deep fried xiao long bao with prawn soup inside topped with a succulent prawn, fried shallots and prawn floss. Fair warning though, just like eating those soup dumplings, the soup filling inside is pretty hot!

Gotta catch ‘em all? You can opt for a Sharing Platter for Two ($18++), which includes two portions of each of the three dishes mentioned above.

And for the sweet sweet dessert, Grains & Hops has introduced the Kaya Cream Mochi ($12++). This super fluffy and soft dessert features a sweet and creamy ball of kaya ice cream wrapped in chewy mocha. Trust me when I say, one is definitely not enough.

Not forgetting, Grains & Hops is also introducing a beer promotion, where you can enjoy a second pint of their locally brewed draft beer for on $5.30++. This beer promotion will be available till 17 August 2018.

Apart from all these promotional items, we also tried something from Grains & Hops’ regular menu.

We had the chance to build our own sharing platters and chose 8 skewers ($73 - good for 4 people). First, we chose our choice of meat and we got a combination of beef, pork, chicken and salmon.

Then, we picked a serving of grain. You can choose between the purple sticky rice, multigrain rice, basmati rice and garlic quinoa. My personal favourite is the garlic quinoa.

Next, choose a dip! Grains & Hops has 8 different dips for you to pick from and we highly recommend the sambal mayo, spicy honey garlic and marmite.

For those of you who might prefer something non-alcoholic to drink, the Peanut Butter Milkshake ($10) is a must-try! Be warned though, this drink is a whole meal in a cup itself. So, pace yourself and try not to finish it all too fast, or else you won’t have space for the amazing food here!

Make your way down to Grains & Hops on the 10th floor of YOTEL now!
