Lai Cheng Yuen, Grand Millennium Hotel

Chinese New Year is a time when families gather together for delectable meals over 15 days of non-stop celebration. This festive season, revel in time-honoured Cantonese cuisine to celebrate a year of abundance. We had the chance to feast on a traditional 8 course meal, and these are some of the dishes we thought were delightful.

There are a few private dining rooms you can choose from to dine in apart from the common dining room as you enter the restaurant.

We started off with some starters that were on display as we entered into the dining room. The crispiness and the meat filling in the spring rolls were absolutely delicious and presumably made by the dim sum chef. The whole table just kept going back for more during the entire dinner.

One of the dishes that had a punchy flavour was the Wok-fried Prawns with Spicy Sauce and the fried man tao's on the side to dip into the sauce.

It is customary in all Chinese dinners especially during the lunar new year to serve a whole steamed fish as a symbol of prosperity. This Steamed Live Cat Fish was very well cooked and served with minced ginger and soy sauce.

Next we had Roasted 'Pi Pa' Style Crispy Chicken with Prawn Crackers. The meat was succulent and the crispy skin was a winner.

This dish was interesting as the stir-fried Hong Kong kailan was topped with deep fried enoki mushrooms. It was simple and the two ingredients were perfect together.

The last main course we had was Fried Rice with assorted Chinese wax meat, wrapped in louts leaf and fried egg. Yet another traditional dish that is a crowd-pleaser.

We ended the dinner with Double-Boiled White Fungus with Logan and Sea Coconut in a glass with Nian Gao on the side cooked two ways, one with yam and the other plain. It was refreshing and sweet, a good way to bring the dinner to a close.

This basic menu starts from RM1988 nett for 10pax and also included with Yee Sang and Shark's fin soup. There will certainly be a wider selection of set menus available valued up to RM 3,888 nett. This is a great chance for you and your family to experience a Toss to Prosperity available now till 4th of March.
