JUMBO Seafood Restaurant, ION Orchard
Singapore’s favourite homegrown seafood restaurant, JUMBO Seafood, has opened its newest outlet at ION Orchard, marking its sixth JUMBO Seafood outlet in Singapore. In case you didn’t know, there are now a total of 17 JUMBO Seafood outlets all across Asia, in countries including Thailand and China.
This new restaurant spans more than 5,400 sq ft and has 4 VIP rooms (for those intimate family gatherings or business luncheons), as well as 160 seats. Did you know that this JUMBO Seafood outlet is the first new outlet to open in over 10 years, and is the first outlet to be located in a shopping mall?
Hence, JUMBO Group has decided to include some exclusive dishes specially for this outlet.
Here at JUMBO Seafood ION Orchard, you’d find a dim sum menu (which is not available at the rest of the other outlets). This is available on weekdays from 11.30am to 3.30pm (last order 2.45pm), as well as on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays from 2.30pm to 5.30pm (last order 4.45pm).
As part of the dim sum menu, we tried the Baked JUMBO Chilli Crab Puffs (l$8.80) and the Pan Fried JUMBO Chilli Crab Buns ($8.80). And as expected from one of Singapore’s most famous spot to satisfy your chilli crab cravings, the chilli crab dim sum dishes were nothing short of amazing.
Of course, the chilli crab dishes don’t just end here. Apart from dim sum, the JUMBO Seafood ION Orchard will be offering a high tea menu from 2.30pm to 5.30pm (last order 4.45pm) on weekends only. This menu features a curated collection of floral teas from $10 per pot.
These teas are paired with small bites such as the Fried ‘Ngoh Hiang’ ($14) and my personal favourite, the bite-sized Chilli Crab Meat Sauce with Sliced Fried Mantou ($16.80).
Out of the ala carte menu, check out the Cheese Baked ‘Mentaiko’ Cheese King Prawn ($16) under the BBQ section of the menu. Think: a large prawn grilled to a perfection and topped with a melty mentaiko cheese sauce. It was just absolute perfection!
Another outlet-exclusive must-try here is the Cod Fish ‘Otah’ in Coconut ($16.80). I am personally not a fan of otah, due to its rather strong fishy flavours. But I found myself liking this particular one, as it tasted really fresh, which I think is due to the cod fish being used here. The coconut added that extra fragrance which tied the whole dish together.
We tried another chef-recommended dish, the Crispy Fried Cod Fish with Nyonya Sauce ($22), featuring expertly-fried cos fish with a tangy and slightly spicy gravy. I personally love cod fish, so this dish is a big yes in my books.
We also tried the Geoduck Clam Served with Superior Stock ($16.80 per 100g). Pronounced as gwee-duck, this dish was another highlight of the night, as the geoduck meat could easily been eaten sashimi style or blanched in the tasty superior stock.
On top of everything, JUMBO Seafood ION Orchard also offers two lavish pao fan options. Pao fan is traditionally a simple and unassuming dish of rice served in soup, the iterations here – King Prawns and Fragrant Rice in Rich Seafood Broth ($38) and Live Boston Lobster and Fragrant Rice in Rich Seafood ($78) – features prized seafood in a piping hot broth topped with crispy rice grains that sizzle when added. So, don’t forget to whip out your phones for the ‘grams!
We tried the King Prawns and Fragrant Rice in Rich Seafood Broth, and it was just amazing. Till this day, I still crave for this. And when I do go back again, rest assured this is the first thing I would order again. JUMBO is certainly not stingy with the huge prawns and the broth was absolutely comforting.

Durian lovers rejoice! The Fried Durian ($6.80) and the Chilled Durian Pudding ($6.80) are a definite must-try! I personally liked the fried durian more as when you cut into the durian fritter, an aromatic durian lava just oozes out.

And if durian is not your cup of tea, the Chilled Mango Sago Pomelo ($5) might be right for you.
Or if you’re into something a little more traditional, the hot Double Boiled Peach Resin ($4.50) will hit the spot.
I know there has been a Chendol (or Cendol) war going on between Malaysia and Singapore, but I can truthfully say that the ‘Chendol’ – Shaved Ice with ‘Gula Melaka’ ($4.50) here passes my standards, with it fragrant, thick and sweet gula melaka that reminds me of home.
