Healthy Zero-calorie Noodles from Tamoya Udon
I know most of you out there who are on a diet would typically avoid carbohydrates (carbs for short), such as rice and noodles. But fret not, when you’re over at Tamoya Udon!
This is our third time here to Tamoya Udon and this time, they're introducing these miracle Bijin Noodles that have virtually zero carbs and zero calories. (Check out our previous reviews on Tamoya Udon here and here)
These Japanese Shirataki Noodles are also known as beauty noodles and made from konjac root. So, they’re also vegan friendly and gluten-free!
And with Tamoya Udon’s new Bijin Noodle series, you can now enjoy it in four uber-yummy flavours.

Let’s start with my favourite one, the Beef Kake ($11.80). The beauty noodles come in a comforting dashi soup broth and slices of beef. I loved how the soup was not too strong in flavour and allowed the beef slices to really shine through.

The Pork Sanuki ($10.80) is another soupy dish that was just as comforting with its strong flavoured soy dashi broth that paired quite well with the pork slices.

I was quite impressed with the Oooh-mami ($10.80). It was served in a rich XO sauce topped with an onsen egg, dried sakura ebi, fresh spring onions and bonito flakes. You’ll be sure to get your umami fix with this dish that kind of reminded me of a good plate of noodles you’d get from the local hawker. I loved how this dish has a nice local twist to it.

Here’s something a little different – cold noodles. The Cold Bijin Noodles ($8.80) are marinated in a rich sesame-shoyu sauce and topped with 5 different vegetables, minced pork and marinated ramen egg. I’m personally not a huge fan of cold food when it’s not a dessert, but taste-wise this was pretty darn good. If it wasn’t cold, this would easily have been my favourite dish.

Since you saved your calories by eating these noodles, you could always order some sides, like some of the tempura they offer here at Tamoya Udon.
I’ll definitely be coming back here for some of these guilt-free noodles! This beats having a cold salad for dinner anytime!
