Fifth Palate, Kota Damansara

Fifth Palate is a neighbourhood gem, tucked away in Petaling Jaya. It is a family-run cafe by owners Tim Ng who controls back of house (aka the Kitchen operations) and his sister Caryne who oversees the front of house service. We could not wait savour the delicious dishes that they had to offer us.

The modern aesthetics of the cafe has a clean and minimalistic vibe. I found the place to be comfortable and a good spot too chill out after a long week at work or to host mid-day work meetings.

We started of with the Truffle Alfredo Pasta (RM22), a good portion of linguine with mixed mushrooms, caramelised onions, truffle oil and grated parmesan cheese to top it off. The truffle had a distinct flavour and the medley of flavours just really hit the spot for everyone on the table, our favourite dish from the new menu.

If you love sour, sweet and spicy flavours this next dish that we tasted would be perfect for laksa lovers. Introducing the Siamese Pasta (RM26 Nett) a fusion of assam and curry laksa! Say what?? Yes you heard us right. This dish was introduced late last year as a special and most of their customers were raving about it. The team at Fifth Palate has heard your prayers and decided to put it on the menu this year. With mackerel flakes that melts in your mouth with mussels, pineapple chunks, topped with mint leaves, torch ginger flower and a whole lot of chilli, what's not to love about this pasta?

Who does not love a good pulled pork that has been simmering in the pot for hours? How does Eggs Benedict with poached eggs and pulled pork rendang on a buttery croissant sound for brunch? This Rendang Benny (RM28 Nett) will probably be a hit as it certainly melted in our mouths and a good twist on a traditional eggs benny.

Fifth Palate's regular customers should be familiar with Everybody loves ramen by now but this new and improved dish Miso Ramen (RM25 Nett) has a miso and sake base as a broth. This is something good to have on a rainy day.

We ended with a homemade burnt cheese cake, original (left) and a kaya flavour (right). These cakes are made in house with their very own kaya folded through. Both flavours were delicious leaning towards a Japanese inspired dessert.

Overall, we were delighted with the new dishes that will be showcased on the menu from March 2018. Fifth Palate serves up delicious food, freshly made to order experimenting with creating their own sauces and original recipes with no preservatives or MSG in their dishes. We will definitely be back for that truffle alfredo linguine.
