Afternoon Tea at Shangri-La Lobby Lounge

There are days when I’m feeling for an afternoon snack and I want to glam it up and enjoy my afternoon at somewhere nice and sophisticated. But most high-teas in hotels come with a hefty price tag, which is enough to make me run the other way.

Shangri-La, famed for hosting a “special event” for the Kim-Trump Summit, is bringing you an affordable high-tea set for 2 at just $38++ on weekdays and $42++ on weekends at its Lobby Lounge.

This tea set, unlike any other, features a wide selection of local favourites that will leave you spoiled for choice.

Before the tier of goodies arrived, we were served some pork satay with peanut sauce. The interesting thing about this is that the peanut sauce has a kind of pineapple puree in it, giving it a sweet and tangy zing.

And here comes the tier of indulgence!

The first tier showcases a medley of flaky and airy vegetable curry and chilli crab puffs; sweet taro ball; savoury hae bi hiam finger sandwich; and spicy otak otak with mantou.

The indulgence continues with the middle tier of goodies, a showcase by homegrown nyonya kueh specialist HarriAnns, featuring ondeh, rainbow lapis, pulut inti, kueh bugis, kueh dadar, kueh harum and kueh ubi kayu.

And last but not least is the top tier with all the sweet desserts. Here you’ll find a classic scone and a scone with a green-ish tinge, which is due to the infusion of pandan. And for durian lovers, the durian dome is a must try, with its fresh durian meat inside! There is also the pulut hitam cake, which is layered with fragrant Chantilly cream.

A bowl of Pulut Hitam is also served, which I think is best eaten last as its light flavours make for a good palate cleanser.
