Rata, SS15 Subang Jaya
From the genius team behind Two Hands comes a new brand in Rata, located at SS15 Subang Jaya. And we were really excited to try the offerings, knowing how much we loved the food at Two Hands.

Walking into Rata is stepping into a laidback oasis. The bar and restaurant is welcoming and warm, with dark green and wooden tones.

Boasting a mix of Western fusion dishes on the menu, there are many options for you to choose from. We let the team at Rata choose some of their best dishes for us to try and this is what we sampled.

We started off with a grilled squid and summer salad (RM26). The salad was refreshing and a great start to the meal.

But the meal really started when we were served the skewers. The beef skewer (RM9.50) and lamb skewer (RM9) we’re both delicious and juicy. My favourite of the two was definitely the beef - so tender and flavourful.

Another appetising starter to try at Rata is the salted egg soft shell crab (RM29). If you’re a huge fan of salted egg, then you will enjoy the sauce on the crunchy soft shell crab. The contrast of the rich, dense sauce against the light, crispy soft shell crab was the perfect combination.

We moved onto the crispy prawn and potato sambal (RM28). This dish packs a punch in the spice department and will test your limits on the Scoville scale. Squeeze the lime over the prawns to give it that extra refreshing taste.

One of my favourite dishes of the evening is the chilli chicken and pineapple pizza (RM26). The mix of flavours in the chilli chicken, against the sweetness of the pineapple as well as the richness of the Greek yogurt made this pizza a burst of flavour with each bite. It’s a little moreish so you might really have to practice self control!

Next, we tried the grilled marinated pomfret (RM42). This dish comes with a whole fish, which is meant for two to share. This is a great sharing platter for two with great value for money.

Pictures can’t do justice to the deliciousness which is the next dish - the wok fried pan mee with spicy tuna (RM28). This is by far our favourite dish of the evening. The “wok hei” flavours resonate throughout the dish and is absolutely perfect from start to end. If it’s one dish that is a must-try at Rata, this is it.

Another must-try dish is the 300 gram beef ribeye with garlic fried rice (RM110). This scrumptious dish is meant to share. The beef ribeye is cooked to medium rare perfection and goes beautifully with the garlic fried rice.

Cap off your meal with some refreshing cocktails at Rata. The Pineapple Prada offers a sweet and sour alcoholic blend that ends the meal perfectly.
If you want something a little heavier, they also have a Bailey’s based cocktail and others to choose from.
The food is the clear superstar here at Rata, bringing together a great combination of Asian favours and ingredients. We will definitely be back (especially for the pizza and wok fried noodles!).
