Mulberry Boutique Hotel Siem Reap: A Dining Experience
Recently, during our stay at Mulberry Boutique Hotel (read about our stay here), we also took the opportunity to try some of the lovely food offerings the hotel has at their in-house restaurant.

When we arrived at the hotel to check in, they had given us a welcome drink, which was an incredibly refreshing passion fruit juice. I couldn’t get enough of it, so of course I had to order it during our meal too.

Like many international standard hotels in Siem Reap, Mulberry’s in-house restaurant has a good mix of both Western and Khmer dishes on the menu. But of course, we had to sample the classic Khmer dishes.

We tried Mulberry’s take on green curry, which is also a popular dish in the Khmer culture. Much like when we’re in Thailand, we spam the green curry, in Siem Reap, we spam their version of curry. If I had to compare this curry to the traditional Thai green curry, this is actually less spicy and has a lot more flavours to it. I liked that it isn’t as spicy as Thai green curry because it allows me to appreciate the dish so much better.

Next, we had a salad. Typically in Southeast Asian countries, salads are made of raw fruit and vegetables and drizzled in fish sauce. This salad ticked all the right boxes and had just the perfect amount of spice in it. A general observation I had of Khmer cuisine is that much of their dishes are far less spicy than Thai dishes.

We also had a taste of their fresh rice paper rolls. Sharing similaries to Vietnamese rice rolls, this Khmer rice rolls were incredibly refreshing and appetising. We just couldn’t get enough of it!

The star of the show definitely had to be the slow cooked beef slices, served with fragrant rice and a sunny side up. The beef was cooked to tender perfection and seasoned beautifully. This was definitely my favourite dish of the meal. This dish shares many similarities with Asian cuisine in general (eg. Chinese, Malay, Thai), but I have to say the Khmer one wins out in its unique flavours and spices. A must-try at Mulberry.
Hotel food is often overlooked because it is seen as “commercialised” but trust us when we say that this isn’t the case when it comes to Mulberry’s food. It is as authentic as it gets.
