Some might associate airports with goodbyes, but I think that it’s also a place of reunions. It’s more and more common for family members to be overseas these days, whether it’s for school or work, so a reunion dinner at Changi Airport seems really appropriate. The four major Chinese restaurants at Changi Airport has a bountiful spread to make your reunion with those traveling back home for the Lunar New Year a special one.

Here are some of my favourites Dian Xiao Er, Paradise Dynasty, Peach Garden and Soup Restaurant Heritage had to offer.

Yu Sheng

What’s a LNY celebration without the tossing of yu sheng. My favourite out of the four was Dian Xiao Er with their Prosperity Smoked Salmon Yu Sheng ($32.80++ for a medium, $56.80++ for a large). I love the use of smoked salmon instead of raw fish, the added savouriness complimented the sweet and zesty sauces commonly used in the dish.

While many would flock to Dian Xiao Er for their signature Herbal Roast Duck, I flock there for their Double-Boiled Nourishing Collagen Brazilian Mushroom Soup, a special dish that’s available exclusively with their LNY Set Menus (from $328++ onwards). Made with top-quality ingredients like ginseng, fish maw and black chicken, you could taste the hours this soup simmered for. A dish like this is usually reserved for special occasions, and this is definitely one of them.

What’s better than crispy chicken? Spicy crispy chicken! I was completely sold with Paradise Dynasty’s Spicy Szechuan Crispy Chicken ($16.80). Each bite size chunk was so incredibly crispy and addictive, and the spicy level was perfect for me, but those who can’t handle their chili might want to avoid this one.

Peach Garden’s yu sheng was a close second for my favourite. I love its addition of crispy lotus root slices and fried fish skin for that extra crunchy bite. And their Deluxe Pen Cai was nothing short of treasure trove of savour goodness, as good as to the countless Pen Cais I've tried,

Soup Restaurant Heritage

Last but not least, just as how Dian Xiao Er is famous for their roast duck, Soup Restaurant Heritage is known for their Samsui Ginger Chicken. And as amazing as it is, it’s pretty much upstaged by their Abalone Treasure Pot with U.S. Lobster ($258 ala carte). This wholesome pot of goodness is the definition of extravagant, I liked the addition of lotus roots that added something with a bit of a crunch amidst the soft and chewy ingredients.

Singapore is a food heaven and it’s appropriate that our airport is just as much a food destination. Whether you’re celebrating early before a short getaway or coming home for the holidays, Changi Airport is a place as good as any to celebrate this Lunar New Year.
