Malgudi, PJ

We had the opportunity to try Maguldi’s interesting Indian-take on a Christmas meal. It comprised a mocktail, two mains and a dessert. Perfect for a couple! You can order the dishes individually, as it is not part of a set menu. But the festive dishes are only available until the first week of January. So make your way down quick!

Malgudi is located in the heart of Lorong Universiti C in Seksyen 16. It was hard to spot the restaurant at first but look out for the green pillars and you'll know you're in the right place.

With a traditional indian-style wooden interior, they have plenty of seating both upstairs and downstairs. Ideal if you want to have a private event.

To start off our meal we had the Santa’s Tangachi (RM8), a watermelon cocktail with subtle hints of spices and honey. It was very refreshing and sweet, a great way to start your interesting Christmas meal!

The Kozhi Kempu Bezule (RM 14) is a boneless chicken marinated in an interesting and different Mangolorean spice mix. It is flavourfully tossed in yoghurt, green chilies and curry leaves. We especially loved that it was so very tender!

The Vaan Kozhi Briyani (RM 22) was quite delicious! It was a Southern Indian briyani with turkey and cooked with Maguldi’s own blend of masala. I’m usually not a fan of briyani but this was exceptionally flavourful. It is served with raita and gravy. The turkey was done really well, however some parts were a little tougher. Overall, I think that they did a wonderful job, as turkey is quite a tough dish to master.

The Shahi Tukra (RM 15) is an Indian version of what we all know as Bread and Butter Pudding! Aruna Sukumar, the lovely owner, told us a bit of the backstory behind this dish. It was known as a dessert only served to the Royals and Kings because the bread would be soaked for hours. The bread was very crisp and crunchy and garnished with nuts and roses with a thick creamy sauce on top. It truly reminded us of typical and classic Christmas pudding in England!
