IPPUDO, The Star Vista
IPPUDO opened their 10th outlet in Singapore at The Star Vista on the 6th of November. The first ever café-inspired restaurant that serves coffee and café-inspired dishes, including two ramens that are all exclusive to the Star Vista outlet. Making it absolutely worth your time to head to Buona Vista for a visit.
Let’s start with one of my favourites, the Lasagna Gyoza ($10).
I’ll admit I was sceptical about this dish at first. I mean, where is the pasta? I was happy to be proven wrong, it tasted surprisingly similar to a baked lasagna. The texture of gyoza skin substituted what was meant to be the pasta, and they definitely nailed the tangy tomato base for the dish. If you like lasagnas, definitely give it a shot.
The sauce on top of the Ebi Mayo ($16) is an interesting mix of chili, mayo, salt, pepper and condense milk. I love prawns, so to see such huge one was a delight. They were also crispy and juicy in all the right places. The sauce was sweet and tangy, though I didn't particularly taste anything spicy.
I really enjoyed the combination of the savoury beef with the sweet onion sauce in the Beef Tataki ($15). The dish also came with onions and rocket leaves, which you can wrap with the beef slices. The added crunch to the meat was nice but onions and rocket leaves can be an overpowering combination so stick to the beef and sweet onion sauce if strong flavours aren't for you.
And what is IPPUDO without great ramen.
If you love IPPUDO's ramen, you can't go wrong with the Tan Tan Men ($16). The broth was fragrant and I love that it packed a spicy punch. Have it as it is, or add a squeeze of the lemon. The added zest made the broth remarkably appetising. I would come back for this ramen.
The Maze Soba ($12) was a fun little bowl of dry noodles with different textures. I especially liked the added crispy fried noodles giving it a crunchy bite in every mouthful. Overall, the dish was sweet, savoury and just a little spicy, and to add a little zest, add a squeeze of lime that comes on the side.
With so many matcha flavoured desserts out there, I'm surprised I haven't had a Matcha Crème Brûlée ($5) before. Well, it was worth the wait because it was delightful. Topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, I like that they found the right balance of sweet and bitterness of the green tea.
It's surprising how, just about a month ago, I've never had IPPUDO before and now I’ve been there at least four times. As the song goes, "then I tasted your ramen, now I'm a believer." Or something along that line. If you love IPPUDO, you'll feel right at home. If you’ve never tried it, head down to Buona Vista and check it out.
