Yoogane, 1 Utama Shopping Centre

In case you haven't heard, a very popular dak galbi restaurant is in Malaysia! Yes, Yoogane opened its first outlet at 1 Utama Shopping Centre as of late last year. Hailing all the way from Busan since 1981, Yoogane is famous for serving one of the best chicken galbi (spicy stir-fried chicken) in Korea.

My friends who have had the privilege to try out their various outlets in Singapore constantly raved to me about Yoogane's good food. So needless to say, I had my expectations up and was quite excited when they were having us over to taste their brand new dish - the Honey Miso Chicken Pan!
The Honey Miso Chicken Pan is a pan of goodness in which you will find delicious savoury-sweet sliced chicken in it, with a variety of fresh vegetables put together and pan-fried to perfection. This dish was introduced to celebrate the festive season and is available in their Christmas set menu for RM98++. The merry set is ideal for 2 pax as it comes complete with 2 festive drinks, 4 lovely side dishes and 2 posset desserts.

Left: Sweet Tidings (Plum Slushie)
Right: Pom Pom (Pomegranate Slushie)
We started off by slurping these two delightful drinks to quench our thirst before we dug into the dishes. Both drinks were exquisite on its own accord. The non-alcoholic drinks were an interesting concoction to me. One that I have never tasted before. Between these two, I preferred the refreshing mix of flavours in the Pom Pom which is a pomegranate slushie that had just the right balance of sourness to it.

Honey Miso Chicken Pan
All attention was then drawn towards the star of this Christmas menu set - The Honey Miso Chicken. We watched as the waiter carefully stir-fried all the ingredients of this dish in front of our eyes. The chunks of juicy chicken (marinated for 12 long hours with honey miso) are mixed together with dok boki (rice cake) and assorted vegetables. Given the many ingredients in this dish, the result was a very tasty meal that were quite filling to our tummies.

Tortilla served with Coriander Aioli sauce (left) and Sriracha Mayo sauce (right)
To best enjoy the Honey Miso Chicken Pan, we were advised to wrap the tender chicken in a piece of soft tortilla and dip it into either one of their special sauces - the Corainder Aioli or Sriracha Mayo. I wouldn't mind bringing home a bottle of these sauces if I could, because it was delicious on its own! The sauces complimented the Honey Miso Chicken really well. I enjoyed the pleasant herb taste of the Coriander Aioli and the mild spiciness in the Sriracha Mayo.

Crispy Salad
The side dishes were generally good too. The small plate of Crispy Salad screams Christmas all over in red and green. It was a simple but appetising salad of sliced Japanese cucumber soaked in Korean vinegar, with julienned bell pepper, Spanish onion, daikon pickle and delicately dusted with some pomegranate seeds.

Tteok-Galbi
Tteok-galbi is a Korean dish made out of beef short ribs. Yoogane presented their version of the tteok-galbi as two meatball-sized beef patties served with crispy turkey bacon atop a bed of julienned daikon. I thought the different elements of this yummy side dish combined well.

Citron Prawn
Next, we had the citron prawn. The prawn was served with citron sauce along with some root vegetables, grapefruit segments and topped with tobiko. It tasted good but we wished there were more prawns because though it was a side dish, the portion seemed to be only for one compared to our next dish.

Soft Shell Crab
Among all the four side dishes, this deep fried soft shell crab served with tofu, kimchi and alfafa sprouts stood out the most for me. You could tell that the crabs were fresh and there was a good crunch with every bite. A really tasty side dish!

Berry Sweet Lemon Posset
We ended our meal with the Berry Sweet Lemon Posset for dessert and it was a sweet ending indeed. The smooth custard, separated in layers of berry and lemon respectively was overall not too sweet. You can opt for the Berry Sweet Plum Posset as an alternative dessert choice too.
All in all, the Christmas menu set is worth giving a try if you are into Korean food. I personally wouldn't mind returning here to try their famous chicken galbi (I heard it's even better with cheese!).
