Golden Valley, TTDI


TTDI is already highly saturated with so many food places but yet so many new gems keep popping up in this trendy neighbourhood. Folks of TTDI (and those of us who have to travel there ) are certainly very blessed with a wide selection of good food. Now, more so with Golden Valley open in the area.

Golden Valley has an interesting concept - Chinese food with halal ingredients. And honestly, it was one of the best Chinese meals I’ve had in a long while!

We started off our meal with a delicious yam basket, topped off with crunchy cashew nuts. I’m not a huge fan of yam baskets but this was super delicious and crunchy, I couldn’t resist having more than one bite.

Chinese dinners are nothing without mushrooms and broccoli soaked in abalone sauce. This was easily one of the favourites for the crunchy broccoli and perfectly seasoned mushrooms.

We also got to enjoy their tiger prawns. While some of the prawns boasted absolute freshness, there were one or two lone pieces that were not as fresh as the others. However, each and every prawn was cooked to the right texture and were all soaked generously in the yummy sauce.

But the star of the show had to be the black pepper beef. This is an absolute must-try here at Golden Valley for the tender, thinly sliced beef packs a punch in each bite. Though I am usually not a big fan of black pepper, I disregarded my dislike for black pepper and devoured most of this dish with no problem.

I was also impressed by their bean curd skin, which proved to be both crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Overall a well executed dish.

And you don’t have to wander far to taste the delicious chilli crab because Golden Valley’s chilli crab is right up there with some of the best chilli crabs I’ve ever tasted. All that was missing was a few fried mantous to enjoy the sauce with.

And of course, it’s always a treat to have fish that is freshly cooked. Many of us stray away from ordering fish too often as most of it still carries that strong “sea” taste, but that wasn’t the case here. The fish was fresh and moorish, tempting me to eat more than my fair share.

Of course, desserts play a sizeable role in Chinese cuisine too. Even though we just had a hearty 7-8 course meal, there is always space for dessert. Hot desserts are common for Chinese dining and we got to sample two of their hot desserts - their red bean paste soup and their lotus pancakes.

Out of the two, I definitely preferred the Chinese pancakes. The crunchy, fried lotus pancakes were absolutely on point and was the perfect end to our meal.
