Pinchos Bar De Tapas, Perth

Any Spaniard will claim their culture represents vibrant eats, good music and long-hour parties. Pinchos is situated in the corner of Leederville, a street that plays host to many of the hottest brunch spots in Perth. Their goal is to keep the menu and setting as authentic as possible while promising affordable prices.

Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted with an eye-catching feature wall and exposed brick throughout the fun-sized bar.

The Spanish playlist was tempting me to bust into some Flamenco moves, but just then the waiter greeted us and led us to our cosy area.

I had been wanting to try their Barraquito Coffee ($7), so I selected it only to have the waiter wink in excitement. She explained this dessert coffee is drunk at almost every occasion in Spain, mainly as an excuse to prolong lunch gatherings. It consists of condensed milk, hot milk, orange zest, coffee and my favourite surprise, Cointreau liquor.

That definitely woke me up! It was like having Baileys with a twist. Delicious and a must have for every brunch meal from now on.

We also had the stellar Flat White Coffee ($3.50) which was rich and creamy, and might I add the cheapest coffee I've ever had in Perth.

Having browsed through the attractive menu several times, we decided to go with the Spanish Beans, the most pricey breakfast meal for only $18. Our second main was also something unfamiliar dubbed Torrijas ($17).

It was nice to see all the staff communicate in Spanish to one another as it added to the experience. We were told even the Nepalese chef speaks fluently. In less than fifteen minutes, both dishes arrived together.

The Spanish Beans encompassed all the flavours we had hoped for. Sofrito, which is a herb and spice together with the tomato mix gave body to the dish, while the chorrizo added flame. Some blood sausage "morcilla" was tossed in together with goats cheese, pieces of baguette and two poached eggs for the finish. I must have thought I was in Spain for a second when I proclaimed "ah magnifico"! The only thing we would like to have had more of was slightly more of chorrizo and spice to add to the heat.

Moving along, we tasted our much talked about Torrijas. They call it the Spanish version of good ol' french toast. Apparently this “sweet” is traditionally eaten during Lent, the 40-day period before Easter. However as regular as it sounds, this twist delivers a taste you would want to leave in your mouth.

Think: saffron poach pears, honey mascarpone and pistachio crumble. You cannot deny the sound of that, let alone bask in the glory of those flavours combined. Appreciated the texture of the bread; fluffy in the middle and crispy crumbly for the sides. Such a treat to finish off the morning.

We will definitely be back to try out some lunch and dinner spreads. Perhaps some tapas, sangria, paellas, seafood and maybe an impromptu dance in my new found happy place Pinchos.
