The BBP, Bandar Utama


The BBP or The Big Black Pig is the friendly neighbourhood restaurant bar that you go to to unwind and relax after a long day.

Its breezy, open air design with wooden and rattan furniture gives a relaxed atmosphere that makes you feel like you're on a holiday island, rather than in the middle of busy Bandar Utama!

The BBP serves all things pork, from pork ribs, pork knuckle, pork sausages, pork pizza, pork burger to a variety of pork pastas. But they also have chicken and lamb dishes as well!

We first tried The BBP's signature pork ribs The Big Black Spaniard (RM88 for 400g).

I always loved the taste of Iberico pork which gives a rich, meaty and complex flavour because of the grass, herbs and acorns the animal grazed on. Iberico pork is the finest pork in the world, and even though its ribs are smaller, I believe it is more delicious!

The BBP prepared their ribs well, with a nice char and slight smoky flavour. It is cooked to a perfect medium and seasoned with herbs and spices. The dish is served with a choice of two sides and BBP's delicious sambal meletup sauce and their barbecue sauce.

The BBP's One Hot Chick (RM65) is certainly a showstopper, so prepare your cameras! The chicken is brought out to your table propped up, and is then set alight with brandy. The chicken is then brought back into the kitchen to be carved up for easy consumption.

The chicken is so tender and juicy, while the skin was a nice crisp. You can also taste the remnants of the brandy that makes the chicken that much more succulent and delicious!

The chicken is served with a choice of two sides, a wedge of lemon to squeeze over the chicken, and BBP's sambal sauce.

I am a huge fan of The BBP's Spicy Bacon Aglio Olio (RM32), not only was it served with an impressive levitating fork, but it was one of the best bacon aglio olios I've had.

The BBP's Spicy Bacon Aglio Olio was perfectly balance with garlic, herbs and spice. They are also generous with the pork bacon and pork crackling that adds more flavour and crunch to the dish. I would definitely come back to order this pasta again!

We also tried a few of The BBP's starters. We tried the Bacon Cheese Bombs (RM19) that is served with cut up jalapeños on the side. We loved the combination of bacon, sausage and cheese with the spice from the jalapeños.

We also tried The BBP's Caramelised Pork Belly (RM19) which reminded me of Kung Pao chicken, without the nuts!

Both were delicious starters, but we enjoyed the mains much more!

All of the food we tried at The BBP was delicious and comforting, and perfect with a pint of beer! What better way to wind down after a tiring day at the office!

I must mention that The BBP has a variety of alcoholic beverages at very reasonable prices, especially during their Happy Hour.

Currently, The BBP is having a special Carlsberg promotion. From Monday to Friday, 5pm to 7pm a full pint of Carlsberg would only cost you RM6.50. On Saturday and Sunday, a half pint of Carlsberg would cost you RM6.50.

Their wine (both red and white) will cost RM11 per glass from Monday to Sunday, 5pm to 7pm.

The best thing is that The BBP is located conveniently at The Club Bukit Utama and there is plenty of parking!

The space is also quite large, and it is suitable for large groups. However, I was told that it can get busy on weekends and nights with big sporting events (that is televised on their TVs), so reservations are recommended for larger groups.
