PAUL, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur

My boyfriend lived in France for a number of years, so he was absolutely thrilled to hear the news of his favourite patisserie coming to Kuala Lumpur.

PAUL opened its doors last month in Pavilion, so we just had to visit to see if the pastries are as good as he remembers.

PAUL is separated into two parts, the main outlet displays the baked goods and has limited seating. The main dining area right outside the outlet, it's hard to miss!

We visited the outlet at around 11.45am on a weekday and got a table easy enough. But by 12.30pm, the tables were starting to really fill up.

Other than the pastries and desserts they are famous for, PAUL also serves up a number of savoury options.

Since PAUL is known for their savoury French bread, we had to try one of their sandwiches.

We chose the Sesame Poulet (RM28) that featured smoked chicken breast, tomato, romaine lettuce on a mayo-mustard spread in a sesame flute.

The chicken was beautifully cooked, done to absolute perfection, it was soft and succulent. I also liked the mayo-mustard spread. The bread was done in typical French-style, but it was a bit tough for my mother who was dining with us.

All in all, the sandwich was good. But to be honest, there was nothing exceptional about it.

We also tried the Croque Saumon Poireuax (RM38) that featured roasted salmon, leeks, cream, Emmental cheese and pain de mie.

It was a delicious combination, I loved the salmon, leek and cheese. But you can't help but to be disappointed at the portion, especially since you're paying RM38 for it!

Other than the two savoury dishes we tried, PAUL also offers open sandwiches, quiche, omelette, savoury crepes, salads and main courses.

The two savoury dishes we tried were good, but not great. Frankly, I feel I can get better sandwiches elsewhere. It is just not worth the price.

Overall, in total honesty, I wouldn't visit PAUL for their savoury items, but I will come back again and again for their dessert!

Their pastries and desserts certainly did not disappoint. Everything we had was exceptional and baked to perfection!

We had the Eclair Cafe (RM13), and it blew my mind! It was the best eclair I've ever had!

The choux pastry was incredibly airy and soft, the coffee cream filling was rich and creamy, and the coffee glaze was sleek and delicious.

The entire eclair was just perfection! Their eclairs alone are a good enough reason to come back!

The Tartelette Citron (RM15) had the most perfect pastry, it was not too hard and just crumbly enough when you bite into it.

The lemon and cream filling was beautifully balanced. It was tart, creamy and not too sweet. It is one of the best lemon tarts I've had!

The Millefeuille chocolat (RM16) was a show-stopper. You could see the beautiful layers of pastry and cream, and it tastes just as good as it looks!

It has the crisp crunch you expect from the pastry, and the creaminess from the creme filling was simply divine!

It wasn't too rich as well, so two people can share this dessert comfortably (or you can have it all to yourself if you're feeling greedy) and still have room to try another dessert.

As you can probably tell, I loved all of PAUL's desserts!

I could find no fault in any of the three desserts I tried. Even though the dessert is not the cheapest, the quality and skill that goes into making it makes it all worth it.

I will definitely be back to try more desserts! It's a pity I can't say the same about the savoury options.
