Master Ye's Roast Fish Pot, Kepong
It's been a while since we last reviewed a casual Chinese restaurant and here's one we felt was worth a visit. The food was so good, we even went back there the week after just because we couldn't get enough of it. Those of you who love a good fish dish, this is a must try!
Their main dish sold here is the Roast Fish Pot (RM48 - RM98, more add ons will cost more) and depending on how many others you have eating with you, you can order the different sizes of this dish. There's also varying levels of spiciness for the broth and we played it safe and got the Level 1 broth which we thought was just right. For those of you dining with kids, the Level 0 broth might be more suitable, but those of you who want to challenge yourself, the Level 3 broth will make you break a sweat. The broth comes with a whole roasted fish along with lala (clams), sotong (squid), prawns and vegetables.
Master Ye's expertise is also with other seafood. We tried the Super Spicy Lala, which is a new item on their menu. These are not your typical tiny clams. You can see that it's bigger than usual and take our word for it when we say it tastes amazing. Fair warning though, this dish really is "super spicy"!
Fish dishes here are so tasty, we decided to try the highly recommended Master Ye's Deep Fried Tilapia (RM38). Anything deep fried can't go wrong right? True enough, this was amazing. The fish's skin was fried to a nice crisp but the meat inside was still soft.
My personal favourite dish of the night was the Thai Style Crispy Sea Bass (RM38). A nice sweet and spicy sauce with fresh sea bass. Mmmmmm... Absolute heaven. I liked how the sauce was made with peanuts, coriander and cucumber. So much that even after we finished eating the fish, I was scooping up the sauce and just eating it with plain rice.
We suggest going during weekdays, because this restaurant can kick up quite the crowd during the weekends and you might have to wait for a seat and wait longer for service.
