Kam's Roast, Pacific Plaza

If you're ever in town and you're looking for some good Asian food to dig into, Kam's Roast is a good choice as it is located at Pacific Plaza (directly opposite from Scotts Square). Though it is not your typical big Chinese restaurant, it gives off a really cosy feel and at times can come off a little crowded, but that is the charm of it all. It will make you feel as if we are eating in Hong Kong.

So even if you can't go to the original Kam's in Hong Kong (which boasts a Michelin star, by the way) Kam's Roast Singapore brings Hong Kong's most famous roast meats to our shores. The Hong Kong outlet was awarded the Michelin Star in the 2015, 2016 and 2017 editions of Michelin Guide Hong Kong & Macau.

And that is exactly what we got to try when we got to Kam's Roast.

What we got to try was Kam's Roast latest introduction to its menu - the 4 Treasure Rice, which showcases the brand's signature dishes all in one plate. It has their famous Roast Duck, Soya Chicken, BBQ Pork (Char Siew) and salted egg. The dish is available at just $11.80+ for takeaway and comes with a complimentary soup of the day.

When we were there for the food tasting, the soup of the day was a hearty lotus root soup and it proved to be pretty tasty and had a unique taste compared to other renditions we have tried at other Chinese restaurants.

Duck here comes in another option apart from roasted and that is their Marinated Duck (from $20 for 1/4 duck). The marinated duck is braised to a tender texture and is chockfull of flavour. The marinated duck definitely retains its full flavour, but we still preferred the roasted duck.

For the sides, we got to taste their Marinated Chinese Mushroom ($5.80). The mushrooms are cooked perfectly and each bite is springy but we felt that it could use a little more flavour.

We also got to sample the marinated tofu ($4.80) and had similar sentiments to the dish as we did the mushrooms.

Finally, for the last of the mains, we got to try the "Toro" Char Siew ($22.80). This is a MUST order when visiting Kam's Roast! The Char Siew was indeed a sinful dish. The fatty part just melts in your mouth and the taste is just out of this world. We were really amazed at how such a small piece of char siew can give out so much taste.

Last but definitely not the least, we had their one and only signature dessert - a Red Bean Soup with 12 years aged orange peel. Though I'm not really a red bean fan, this is a dessert I feel is worth coming back for. The orange peel gave it a sweet zesty taste and had me craving for more.
