Selera Nostalgia Ramadan Buffet 2017, Four Points by Sheraton Puchong
It is not often you walk into a hotel buffet to find a beautiful spread of Malaysia's local delicacies - especially when the hotel is an international chain. But here at Four Points by Sheraton in Puchong, that is exactly what you can expect, especially now that Ramadan is just round the corner (can you believe we've already entered the second quarter of the year?).
Introducing their Selera Nostalgia buffet dinner, which will be available this festive Ramadan season from 27 May till 24 June, Sheraton is ready to welcome their Ramadan crowd.
Choose from an array of local selections, such as Roti John with minced beef or sardine, chicken or beef satay, ayam dara masak briyani (spring chicken with briyani spices), curry laksa and so much more.
Not forgetting the dessert selections that cover up to 14 different Malaysian sweet dishes... From all-time favourite kueh-muih (sweets and cookies), sago gula melaka (sago simmered in coconut milk and palm sugar) and even pengat nangka (jackfruit with coconut milk).
The Foodie team had a little sneak peek into this upcoming festive buffet. We took (more than just) a look at the huge and juicy roast lamb and had to try it. And it tastes as good as it looks - it was so tender and the marinade had a very tasty rempah (herb) flavour. A MUST TRY!
We also loved the keropok lekor and satay ayam. The keropok lekor was soft on the inside with a slight crisp on the outside. Definitely good enough to compete with your local mak cik selling keropok lekor. And the satay ayam was just the right combo of chicken meat and fats. The meat was so tender because only chicken thigh meat was used for this dish and it retained its juiciness perfectly. I personally love satay and this I would say is one of the better ones out there.
Of course, what is local food without nasi kandar? Four Points by Sheraton's Ramadan Buffet spread also includes the classic dish complete with delicious side dishes, such as fried chicken, squid, prawns and crabs, ayam masak kicap (chicken in soy sauce) and kambing kurma (lamb kurma).
There's even a buffet station where you can get laksa made for you fresh on the spot with your choice of toppings and noodles. I liked the fact that I was customising my own bowl of laksa, however I did find the broth a little too watery. I personally like my laksa to have a very thick broth, but if you like them a little more clear, this would be right up your alley.
If you guys have been following my posts, you would know that I'm a huge desserts person. So, with 14 different types of dessert to choose from, you can only imagine my happiness! I tried the pengat nangka (jackfruit simmered with coconut milk and palm sugar). It was just a tad bit too sweet for my liking, but the jackfruit gave this sweet dish an amazing aroma and flavour.
There's also a DIY ais kacang (shaved ice dessert) station. The only thing I didn't like about this was my bowl was too small to fit all the toppings I wanted to include! There were so many toppings available, such as cincau (grass jelly), longan, lychee, cendol, corn, atapchi and so much more. I had to get seconds just to try everything! Not to mention, it makes for a colourful dish too!
Selera Nostalgia will be available from 27 May to 24 June 2017. So mark your calendars! Adults eat for RM140 nett per person and RM70 nett per child from 4 - 11 years old.
