GinRikSha, Bukit Damansara

Indian fusion food has been gaining popularity in recent times, what with porky Indian food and all... and now, there is GinRikSha's incredible spread of tantalising cuisine mixed with a cool, modern ambience right in the heart of Bukit Damansara.

It's a pretty brave move to open so close to Aliyaa too, a neighbourhood favourite for Sri Lankan food just one row behind. But if it's one restaurant that can prove to be a decent contender, it would be GinRikSha.

I love the cool interior that makes it perfect for a nice night out with friends or family. Of course, the more the merrier when it comes to Indian food. I would recommend you start off with the pop corn tempura (RM12). Corn deep fried in tempura batter? There's no better beer food than that! But take heed: once you start, you cannot stop.

Another appetiser worth trying is their spicy whitebait (RM9), another great snack to munch on while sipping on icy cold beer.

My favourite appetiser for the night though, was the kerala shrimp (RM34). Prawns are grilled with plenty of spices and the tamarind flavour stands out. It pairs well with bread but can be devoured on its own too.

For something that is very fusionised, try the butter chicken poutine (RM18). The butter chicken is a very classic Indian dish, made with an incredibly creamy sauce, that goes perfectly with the fries.

Try the varuval quesadillas (RM28) as well, as it surely will not disappoint. Each pocket is filled generously with the mutton varuval and packs a flavourful punch with every mouthful.

They take their meats very seriously here at GinRikSha, which is why they have dedicated BBQ Fridays. Enjoy a selection of grilled meats here at GinRiskSha on Friday nights after 7PM and every order comes with one of their signature cocktails of the day.

But on other days of the week, try their spicy honey garlic rack of lamb (RM55). This is by far one of the best lamb rack dishes we have tried in KL. The honey garlic sauce goes perfectly with the tender, juicy meat.

Everything we tried on the menu was so good that it really got our appetites raring to go for more. So we ordered another appetiser to share at the end of the meal. We chose to go with the salt and pepper squid (RM18) which was a nice, simple recipe and tasted very comforting.

Surprisingly, even after all of that, four of us had space for desserts! And we tried three of GinRikSha's desserts. The first was a tiramisu (of which I typically have a high benchmark) and it was pretty good. The tiramisu is made in-house and is light and fluffy and good for two to share.

The next was their in-house bread and butter pudding and oh my, I have to say this was the highlight of our entire meal. The chocolate in the bread and butter pudding was a nice surprise and wasn't too sweet. This was everyone's favourite dessert hands down.

Cocktails are also a specialty here at GinRikSha. Get the chief mixologist to whip up something to your preferred tastebuds or just go with some of the already amazing house concoctions like their Apple Sour (RM32). The description for that drink is that it tastes like an apple pie in a glass and we could not agree more. It definitely tasted like a freshly baked apple pie.

We also tried unique cocktails like their Cath's Gin Ginger (RM27) which is a blend of T10, ginger and grapefruit. Two of the drinks we would also recommend trying are their Chai Whiskey Sour (RM32) and Espresso Yo'self (RM25), which are both great twists on the tea/coffee.
