Peach Blossoms, Marina Mandarin Hotel
Known for being one of the best high-end Chinese restaurants in Singapore, Peach Blossoms will definitely not disappoint, especially if you are looking for good Chinese cuisine.
And since Chinese New Year is just around the corner (how time flies by so quickly!), we got to try their Lunar New Year menu for 2017, and it's definitely a winning bet if you are looking for a place for reunion dinner or family gathering this upcoming Chinese New Year.

Marina Mandarin Salmon Yu Sheng with Mixed Fruits
No reunion dinner would be complete without a Yusheng, and what makes this particular Yusheng stand out from the typical ones is due to the fruits being added to the mix. It adds a fruity characteristic without making the overall dish too sweet. It also gives the dish multiple dimensions to its texture, especially once you add in the crunchy cracker bits. We also loved the fact that the portions of the raw salmon and tuna slices are very generous, especially if you love your sashimi, and we certainly do!

Barbecued Whole Suckling Pig
The barbecued suckling pig was a nice treat to have. The skin is pretty crunchy and the dish is served witha dumpling skin which seemed to have more wheat content than what we are used to. The spring onion and chili, along with the hoisin sauce offsets it, though, once it is all put together. I personally think it is very well prepared, as it really sets the bar for suckling pig in Singapore.

Double-boiled Kampung Chicken Soup with Premium Matsutake Mushroom
We loved the soup. The chicken was really tender and the mushrooms had the texture of meat as well. I really liked it and I think it's a universal dish that would speak to most tastebuds.

Steamed Silver Cod with Black Garlic and Grains
We were also served a really well-cooked cod. I found the fish to be cooked perfectly. It was sightly salted, and the flavour of the black garlic sets a really nice homey feel to it. It felt like the dish was warming my soul up. Talk about soul food.

Fragrant Smoked Chicken
Chicken is a pretty standard dish for most CNY dinners, but Peach Blossoms takes this classic fare to the next level. The chicken was really tender and juicy, especially with the accompanying soy sauce, which gave it a nice flavour.

Baked Boston Lobster with Creamy Salted Egg Yolk and Cheese
The lobster with salted egg was pretty decadent, even though we're quite over the whole "salted egg" trend. The lobster was a little overshadowed by the salted egg yolk, which is a pity. The salted egg proved to be a highly dominating flavour, which can be a good if that is your preference, but we would have liked to have more of the lobster taste.

Claypot Rice with Chinese Sausage and Preserved Meat in "Hong Kong" Style
Claypot rice is another staple of Chinese restaurants - whether it is during CNY or weddings. So it's safe to say we've tried our fair share of the dish. We particularly enjoyed their rendition of the dish. The rice was fluffy and fragrant. The sausages were also incredibly well-seasoned although we are not big fans of Chinese sausages in general.

Chilled Coconut Jelly with Mango Puree served with Coconut Ice Cream
Even if you have just completed five courses and the button on your pants is ready to burst, under no circumstances will you want to miss out on the desserts here. Served cold, this mango and coconut marriage is just absolutely refreshing. If you are reading this, please do order this (even if you are full), and you will be glad you did.
