Redang Station No. 15, Sekinchan

Sekinchan is a beautiful little town just over an hour away from Kuala Lumpur’s bustling city centre. If you’re looking for a quick getaway from KL, this is the place for you to go to. And by quick, I mean, a day-trip from KL or at most one night away.
Though there isn’t much to do in this tranquil spot, the beauty of the place lies in its peace and quiet away from the hectic rush of city life. There are paddy fields for you to go to and of course, since it is a beachside town, you can enjoy the seabreeze here, too.

Since us Malaysians/Singaporeans love food so much, of course, no trip to Sekinchan is complete without food. And here at Redang Station No. 15, they offer a Sekinchan staple - seafood. A quick search on Tripadvisor will lead you to Redang Station No. 15, the number one popular spot among locals and tourists.

It’s a little seafood joint by the fishing village, where you can watch fishermen (who may sometimes bathe naked, giving you full view from the restaurant) on their boats, loading up the barrels of fresh catch. #haul #literalhaul

And that catch of the day goes straight to the restaurant to be cooked – whether stir-fried, broiled, boiled or grilled – and served to you fresh and hot!
Order the lala cooked with ginger slices to taste the heavenly freshness of the seafood. It’s an unparalleled experience to enjoy this dish next to all the fishing boats. Truly, it doesn’t get any fresher than this.

Tiger prawns here are huge and so fresh. I’d also recommend getting this cooked in clear broth and enjoy it with their house made sambal chilli – it is to die for!

Surprisingly, one of the best dishes to have here is their fried noodles with pork. Damn, if you think maggi goreng at the mamak is good, you’ve got another think coming.

Okay, so I typically avoid squid because I am so afraid it would come overcooked and the whole dish would just go to waste. Nothing is more disappointing than getting rubbery squid. But of course, it was fried beautifully here and had the perfect texture.

But what you absolutely cannot miss here is the freshly made fishballs. They’re so bouncy and when dipped into the chilli sauce, can be so moreish that you won’t even realise you’ve had half the portion by yourself!

If you’re the kind who can’t live without crab when dining at seafood restaurants then you have to order the crabs. Again, everything here is so fresh that they don’t have to slather it in sauces for the great flavours. The crab alone is sweet and tasty.

The bill didn’t come with a breakdown but we only paid about RM140 for our meal. I’d say that’s really worth it!
