It seems like there have been many seafood buffets recently in local hotels. It must be the season!

We have seen the Hokkaido Harvest at Mandarin Orchard and Holiday Inn Atrium’s seafood fest.

Now, Hotel Jen@Orchard Gateway is also offering diners a feast with 4 different types of prawns. From 3rd October to 1st December 2016, Makan@Jen is inviting patrons to their Prawn Extravaganza, where you will get to savour prawns from around the world, and of course, cooked in different styles too.

We got the privilege of sampling these gorgeous crustaceans one evening. The prawns were all placed near the entrance of the restaurant, and it certainly piqued our appetites upon arrival.

The prawns were prepared several ways – simmered lightly in alcoholic broth (YUM!), stir-fried, steamed, baked and even coated in batter and fried to a golden crisp.

My favourite prawn dish was the Deep Fried Salted Egg Prawns. It was crispy on the outside, juicy and crunchy on the inside. And yes, we ate the prawn shells, too!

Because the salted egg batter coats the prawn shells, it actually makes the prawns salty and sweet at the same time. We absolutely loved it! There are also are prawns with an accompanying selection of sauces such as thai chilli, prawn bisque, black pepper and sweet and sour sauces.

If you like prawns to be cooked in your own way, Makan@Jen allows you to pick the type of prawns, and to choose your preferred style of cooking. Feel free to get the chef’s recommendations on the right kind of texture and the best cooking method for specific prawns.

If your accompanying diners are not prawn lovers, Makan@Jen offers the usual buffet spread that includes satay, laksa fried rice and many other local delicacies. We guarantee you will be spoilt for choice.
