Eight at Lido Hill, Jalan Bertingkat Skudai JB

What is undoubtedly one of the most romantic restaurants in Johor Bahru, Eight at Lido Hill is a standalone establishment along Jalan Bertingkat Skudai.
As you drive along the main road, you will be able to see the number 8 to indicate that you have arrived at your destination. Don't miss the turn because it would mean having to go another huge round.

Choose between outdoor and indoor seating. But JB's night sky can get incredibly clear, making this a nice place to dine al fresco under the stars. There's no question to why this is the most romantic restaurant in JB.

The facade of the restaurant reminds me of an authentic Italian (upscale) cucina. I would have almost believe that I had been transported to Italy if not for our sweltering heat and humidity. But still, it is great to bring a date to for a romantic night out.

I believe Eight at Lido Hill is a popular spot for weddings. There is the beautiful lawn, a stage area, the bar and the interior of the restaurant to house a maximum capacity of a few hundred, easily.

What is a shame, however, despite having all ticked the other boxes to make this the perfect place to bring a date to for the ultimate night of romance, is that the food may not be of the best standards.
We ordered a prawn olio starter - something I tend to order when dining at tapas restaurants. But a couple of prawns were slightly undercooked and the overall flavour didn't pop enough.

I also ordered the truffle fries - and couldn't taste the truffle at all. It seemed like it was just Parmesan cheese and I would have felt less disappointed if they had used shoestring fries instead. Props for presentation but looks can only get you so far. I believe a lot can be improved for this dish in terms of taste.

However, the mains proved to be far better in quality over the starters. I had a salmon dish, which was presented beautifully and had the consistency to match. It was a well-executed dish but a little on the pricey side. This is understandable considering Eight at Lido Hill is positioned to be on the more upscale dining side in JB.

A standout dish for the night was the lamb. The chef handled this dish with much care and concentration that seemed lacking in the starters. It was well worth having as a main and I would recommend skipping everything else on the menu and only considering this to be part of your meal if you're going to dine at Eight at Lido Hill.

We also tried their basic tomato based pasta - which lacked seasoning and was overshadowed by the other mains. I believe you can give this dish a skip.

Thankfully, the meal was redeemed by an acceptable tiramisu dessert. It may not be the best tiramisu I've tried but it's made it to my top 10, at least.
