Griddy @ Westgate

Griddy's concept is interesting. Most of its food come in grids and it seems popular among the casual dining crowd.

As we eagerly sat waiting for what was in store for the media tasting at Griddy, the waitresses served us their signature mocktail, Lychee Mojito ($3.90). The sweetness and blend of mint leaves made the drink refreshing. It is indeed the right choice of drink to whet your appetite. The Lychee Mojito is a top choice among diners here and it isn't hard to see why.

To start off the meal, we were served mushroom soup. Though this isn't grid shaped, it is a good introduction to the meal. The mushroom soup is either served in a cappucino cup for 1 person, or in a pot for 2-3 people. The soup was rich and flavoursome, and there were even full slices of mushroom at the bottom of the pot. It was addictive, I must admit. But I had to make sure to leave enough space for mains.

As our first appetiser, we had the Mid Wings with the choice of two dips: Salted Egg Yolk, Laksa, Creamy Garlic or Dill ($7.90). Personally, my favourite sauces are the salted egg yolk and the creamy garlic. They complimented the chicken wings really well, carrying out every flavour from the meat through the skin. My other foodies found solace in the Dill and Laksa sauces.

Our first main dish was the Charcoal Waffle All Day Breakfast ($$11.90). Served with charcoal waffle (a new addition to the menu), poached egg with hollandaise sauce, grilled ham and sausages, mini garlic potatoes, grilled tomatoes and fresh salad, we guarantee this meal can keep you full throughout the day. The egg is perfectly poached, giving that nice runny feel of the yolk. The hollandaise sauce was a slight disappointment as the yolk and butter proportion was a little overwhelming. However, the garlic potatoes were crunchy and redeemed the dish.

With the recent craze of adding salted egg yolk to everything, our host, Sheree recommended the Spaghetti with Grilled Chicken and Salted Egg Yolk Sauce ($9.90). Can we just say right now that this is one of the best salted egg yolk dishes that we tried? Spicing the al dente pasta up with salted egg yolk sauce works well and fuses east with west perfectly.

We also had the Tom Yam Pasta with Pan-Seared Salmon ($9.90). The seasoning of the salmon is on the saltier side, but we were amazed by how well the taste of tom yam went with the pasta. The combination for this dish is extremely well balanced.

The Battered Chicken and Waffle ($9.90) is a kid-friendly dish and is cute in presentation and size. Consisting of one slab of fried chicken, waffle, waffle potatoes, salad and a ramekin of bolognese sauce, its bound to keep a kid full for the day.

But no matter how much we eat, there will always be space for dessert. Dark Pleasure is the charcoal waffle served with vanilla gelato, topped with strawberries, bananas, grapes, kiwi, drizzled with gula meleka sauce. For those who like their waffles sweet, this would be your best pick at Griddy. The charcoal waffle is slightly crispy on the outside, and airy on the inside.

Fret not if you happen to have a savoury preference for dessert because Griddy created the Salted Egg Yolk & Caramel Waffle ($8.50) to address that. At this price, you get to enjoy vanilla gelato, drizzled with caramel sauce and decorated with a love letter biscuit. The salted egg yolk sauce is served separately so that you can adjust the richness to your own liking. Again, the flavours were all very well balanced and we recommend this as your must-try dessert!

For people living in the East, they will be opening their next outlet in that area so do stay tuned! In the meantime, you may also want to check out their Facebook and Instagram page for more updates and promotions!
