Croutons by Gourmet Seductions, Seri Kembangan
While I normally try not to venture beyond the comfort zone of the larger Damansara area, I made an exception for Croutons. It was so worth it.
The cafe itself is really modern with a clean interior and quirky decorative pieces scattered throughout. It gives off a casual vibe but it's still chic enough that its somewhat sophisticated menu will not be out of place.
We started off our tasting session with a couple of soups - potato & leek (RM9.90) and wild mushrooms (RM11.90), and a Caesar salad (RM15.90). As for drinks, we ordered a vanilla milkshake as well as a honey lemon tea. No points for guessing which drink is mine.
Then chef prepared specials for us - which differ from day to day. Today's specials happened to be a chicken roulade with chicken jus. It is very obvious that Chef Shain takes pride in his work as it shows in his flawless presentation and execution.
He also prepared an almond-crusted halibut. For a cafe that's been open for only a few months, the menu is highly ambitious and reflective of the Chef's passion.
The breakfast menu has the classic Big Breakfast (RM21.90), a hearty omelette (RM17.90) and everyone's favourite, Eggs Benedict (RM19.90).
For something not as heavy, breakfast eaters can try their croissants with bacon and cheese (RM10.90) or smoked salmon (RM11.90).
Desserts are not officially on the menu yet but Shain shares that they will be offering these desserts on a complimentary basis with each meal till the end of May. What we tried was a Belgian chocolate mousse with blueberry coulis and pistachios. Another option for dessert is a panna cotta.
Chef Shain is Greek but has been in Malaysia for over 10 years now. Previously in the finance line, Shain decided that pursuing his heart's passion would take precedence and went into the catering line. He heads the cafe as head chef, carrying out his culinary dreams.
He also does catering, fine dining style for 8-10 people. But for larger groups, he offers buffet style canapés.
